[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a nice name by itself. You don’t have to name him [name_m]John[/name_m], exclusively. You can also use [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m]… Personally, I prefer only [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

I prefer [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]John[/name_m] is a classic, strong name so I appreciate it for that, but I think its waaay too common. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] its also pretty popular, but its less plain imo. I do not think you have to name him [name_m]John[/name_m] to get to [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I knew a [name_m]John[/name_m] that went by [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and it was a mess cause he preferred [name_m]Jack[/name_m] but all his papers said [name_m]John[/name_m].

I would go with [name_m]John[/name_m]. With the mega-popularity of [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m], I know more boys called [name_m]Jack[/name_m] than I could wave a stick at. [name_m]John[/name_m] gives him a far less ubiquitous option in the current generation of little ones.

You’d a definitely use [name_m]Jack[/name_m] on its own. It’s a happy, slightly cheeky and solidly boyish name. These days, I’m really liking [name_m]John[/name_m] nn [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] but otherwise [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. My grandfather was a [name_m]Jack[/name_m] from [name_m]John[/name_m]! But I think unless you’re really into [name_m]John[/name_m] and think it might be used, there’s little reason it seems to use it over a straight [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

Is it necessary to use [name_m]John[/name_m] to get to [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? No.

Would it be confusing to use [name_m]John[/name_m] to get [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? Eh, maybe. I myself wasn’t aware that was a somewhat common practice long ago, and I still don’t fully understand it, but it doesn’t bother me now that I’ve had some time to come across it a few times.

Does [name_m]Jack[/name_m] sound too nicknamey? I honestly don’t think so! It feels like a full name to me. It brings to mind the “all-American boy next door” vibe, not a perpetual little boy.

I honestly prefer [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_m]John[/name_m] alone (not [name_m]John[/name_m] “[name_m]Jack[/name_m]”) but with your other son being called [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], I’d just go with [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. While I’m not super familiar with the association, I immediately put two and two together…[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] was a theologian and evangelist. Not sure on your background or if this would be a deal-breaker at all for you, but it was noticeable. I wasn’t going to point it out but it did come up in my thought process on [name_m]John[/name_m] vs. [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

I’m a big believer in naming them what you will call them! I know a mom who named her little boy [name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] with the intention of exclusively calling him [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], which she adored. When the boy was about 10 he decided he wanted to be [name_u]James[/name_u] and now he’s gone by [name_u]James[/name_u] for 6 years, much to his mum’s sadness! I say name him [name_m]Jack[/name_m], and call him that!

I prefer [name_m]Jack[/name_m]; I think it’s spunkier and cute. You don’t need a full name for it unless you really want to (consider: The Honorable [name_m]Judge[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] Lastname sounds better than The Honorable [name_m]Judge[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Lastname). If you name your son [name_m]John[/name_m], he’ll have that in common with tons of other Johns, which is a good thing and a bad thing. You won’t know which generation of [name_m]John[/name_m] he is.

I adore both [name_m]John[/name_m] (a family name) and [name_m]Jack[/name_m], slightly preferring [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. If you plan to call him [name_m]Jack[/name_m], I would name him [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a perfectly exceptable name on its own and has been for a long time…at least in the states.

I voted [name_m]John[/name_m] because I think it’s a handsome, classic name and I love giving children names that they can do what they wish with. It’ll be nice for him to chose if hr wants to continue to be [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or switch to [name_m]John[/name_m] at a certain age. But it’s certainly not necessary, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a handsome, legitimate name on its own. Follow your heart. Good luck.

I take it your are in the US? This seems to be a particularly American problem as the rest of the English speaking world happily uses [name_m]Jack[/name_m] with no hesitation as the full name. There’s much more angst in the US about whether a name is a proper name or a nickname, which is reflected in the different popular names lists in the US, the UK, NZ and Australia. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] stands fine on its own and is great with [name_m]Wesley[/name_m].

I would absolutely go with [name_m]John[/name_m]. It’s my brother’s name. He always went by [name_m]Jack[/name_m] in our childhood, but now goes by [name_m]John[/name_m]. Give him options!

I’m probably doing this with my baby as well! I think I’m going with [name_m]John[/name_m]. My only reason for choosing [name_m]John[/name_m] is that it honors FIL & [name_m]BIL[/name_m] (it’s their middle name). Our last name ends in ak so [name_m]Jack[/name_m] fits well because it’s a combo of the J in [name_m]John[/name_m] and the last 2 letters of our last name. I would’ve gone with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] if it weren’t so rhymey with our last name and we didn’t want to include the honor name!

I would go straight for [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m]!

My brother, ironically, is also a J0hn R0bert, and he’s mostly always been J0hnny, but he was given the option of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] when he was about six, and he was like, “YEAH! I’m gonna be [name_m]JACK[/name_m]!” But nobody could remember to call him [name_m]Jack[/name_m] lol. So it was the whole “Johnn-errr-[name_m]JACK[/name_m]!” thing for about a month’s time, until they just barely started remembering he was now [name_m]Jack[/name_m], and actually calling him that, and then he was like, “Mama, I want to be [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] again!” haha! I just remember my mom’s frustration with the transition lol. Your mention of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and J0hn R0bert reminded me of it. I think you could easily do [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m], or just [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m]–either are lovely!–but I admit to preferring [name_m]Jack[/name_m] because [name_m]John[/name_m] itself is sooooo overused in my family and I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is perfect as he is! I know how popular [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is, but I’m always up for meeting another haha. It’s such a great name!

I really like both but voted for [name_m]John[/name_m] because you can still get [name_m]Jack[/name_m] from it.

I’d go with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] 100%! [name_m]John[/name_m] is far too outdated for me.
