This is a Hebrew name. I am pretty sure in Hebrew it would be Ya’el. But, not only am I sure we would butcher the pronunciation, we have seen/used the English translation Jael for years as we read this story in the Bible.
Would you intuitively pronounced this with a “y” as Ya-El or as Jay-Elle.
[name_f]My[/name_f] instinct with [name_u]Jael[/name_u] would be Jah-el, but I think the Ya-el pronunciation would be an easy correction if you prefer that. I think many people would assume the J sound, but would be familiar enough with J’s being pronounced like a Y in some cases that once corrected, they would remember.
I would pronounce [name_u]Jael[/name_u] as JA-elle first, but it wouldn’t be a complicated switch to say it Ya-el as they are two familiar sounds. I like the name a lot, but my only hesitation is that people might say “jail”. 
Otherwise, it is one of those Hebrew names that isn’t too common and is very beautiful! 
I’d probably pronounce both ya-ell, mainly as it’s the one I prefer. I have heard [name_u]Jael[/name_u] pronounced like jay-ul and jah-el too though

I’d pronounce [name_u]Jael[/name_u] as jail and [name_u]Yael[/name_u] as ya-EHL.
I would pronounce [name_u]Jael[/name_u] the same as jail (unfortunately) or maybe jay-EL if I wanted to distinguish it from jail a bit. I would pronounce [name_u]Yael[/name_u] as yah-el (I have to do a bit of an Israeli or [name_u]French[/name_u] accent to say it right).
I have a friend who named her daughter [name_u]Jael[/name_u]. To my knowledge there haven’t been issues with others picking up on “Jay-Elle”; intuitively [name_u]Yael[/name_u], isn’t the spelling I’m used to see in my translation so my first guess in seeing [name_u]Yael[/name_u] would actually be more like the college [name_u]Yale[/name_u].

I had not thought of that! Yes, [name_u]Jael[/name_u] could be seen as “jail” and [name_u]Yael[/name_u] as “Yale”. Hmm. I guess you could go with more specific spelling like [name_f]Jahel[/name_f] or Ya’el. But maybe it would confuse ppl further.
I had always heard/read [name_u]Jael[/name_u] as Jae-Elle. But that doesn’t mean that was correct! But it’s what I most prefer. 
The correct spelling is with a Y.
It does vary within the various translations. The one I use spells it [name_u]Jael[/name_u].
