Both? I love the name [name_u]James[/name_u], but it is really common. (It’s actually the most common name I see on Tinder where I live. hahaha) It’s such a handsome sounding name! I’d use it myself if it wasn’t so popular.

I went with classic but really I think it’s best described as being both classic and common.

Undeniably classic, although I have my doubts about how common it actually is among little ones.

Yes [name_u]James[/name_u] is common. It’s currently in the top ten and will likely always be somewhere around there. But that doesn’t mean it’s not classic. It’s extremely classic and timeless and I personally [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it. Unlike [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] (it’s classic cousin) it hasn’t skyrocketed to the top of the list so I think it would be seen as less of a generational name. A name like [name_u]James[/name_u] can’t ever be “too common” because it’s an evergreen classic, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I thought both. It is super common, way too much for me, but also a nice enough classic. I think the fact it has a lot of nicknames too helps keep it young and fresh sounding (to some extent).

It’s a common classic. It has so much history and is such a great name that it’s been almost overused. That’s not to say you should rule it out, but just realize that if you use it your [name_u]James[/name_u] most likely won’t be the only one you know. I actually like the idea of using a more unique middle name to balance it out. [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] all sound great to me. I feel like you really can’t go wrong with [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

Classic for sure

Its very common these days, but still a classic. [name_u]James[/name_u] is timeless, 50+ years from now it will still be a classic.

I think of [name_u]James[/name_u] as being common because it is a tried and true classic.

Eh. Although it’s not nearly as pervasive as [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] (16,712 births last year) or [name_u]Noah[/name_u] (19,144), 14,301 births is far too many in my opinion for it to be fresh or memorable. I liken it to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a lovely name. Classic? Yes. Timeless? Yes. Usable across multiple generations? Certainly. But those qualities don’t prevent you from going deaf to it after a while.

None of that should stop someone who really loves it from using it. It’s just that it’s too common to jump out at me personally in any way, shape, or form.

I love it and I think the nickname of [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] for a little boy is absolutely adorable!

[name_u]James[/name_u] is both common and a classic. Many classic names are common.

[name_u]James[/name_u] is a strong and uncomplicated. I think it’s a really good name. I have only every met a [name_u]James[/name_u] in history or literature

Both. It’s interesting people are starting to use it as a middle name for girls.

I have a few with the name [name_u]James[/name_u] in my family so I would never use it myself but it’s usable.

It may be popular but it is also classic and in my opinion, this is totally fine for boys.

Classic.

Common or popular doesn’t have to be a negative.

Classic. And I agree w/the previous poster that [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]'s a great nn!

I read somewhere (?) that [name_u]James[/name_u] is the most popular name over the past 100 years. I was thinking that title might go to [name_m]John[/name_m], but it’s fallen out of favour in recent generations, where [name_u]James[/name_u] is about as timeless as it gets. So… Both!
