James "Jim, Jimmy"

Thoughts on [name_u]James[/name_u], called [name_m]Jim[/name_m] or [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m]? Is it too 50s or ready to come back into style?

I would like to pair it with something a bit more unusual. I like the names [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], but I feel like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] sound like people that exist, if that makes sense. Like a first name, surname combo of a celebrity or something. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you agree or do they work?

I was also thinking:

[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Finlay[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Chance[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Levi[/name_u]

I feel like [name_u]James[/name_u] is so common that when you pair it with a somewhat common name you start wondering if there might be lots of people around with the first name-surname combination and whether some of them might be semi-famous or unlikable.

[name_u]James[/name_u] is just flawless anyway, and then I find Jim/Jimmy SO charming. A little vintage appeal. Warm, friendly, approachable. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.

I get what you mean about a somewhat more unusual middle. [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] is handsome.

I love [name_u]James[/name_u] and agree you should go a bit out there with the middle since it has been in use so long. Jim/Jimmy are still dated to me how about [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Ellington[/name_u]?

[name_u]James[/name_u] has always been a fav of mine. It is dotted all over my family. Grandfather, husband, nephew, uncle in law, etc. so we obviously wouldn’t use it due to all those we already have!

I think a [name_u]James[/name_u] with a nickname [name_m]Jim[/name_m] or [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] would be perfect! It’s not too 50s, IMO, but a little refreshing for a baby.

I think a baby James “Jim, Jimmy” would be so refreshingly offbeat and cool. Per your concern that there might be someone famous or unlikable with the same first and surname, this goes for all popular names, not just James. Parents of Liam’s aren’t not using Liam because of this. I personally love James Thomas, but how about:

James August
James Timothy
James Theodore
James Elio
James Henry
James Kieran
James Elijah
James Edmund
James Ezra
James Rory
James Chandler

Jimmy adds a bit of spark and a touch of unexpectedness to James.

James Thomas and James Elliott are solid choices but something with a bit of flair would be my personal choice. James Levi and James Finlay are nice.

I’d consider: James Raphael, James Leander, James Orson, James Malachi, James Rory, James Valentine, James August, James Felix, James Hugo, James Gideon

[name_f]My[/name_f] friend has a nephew named [name_u]James[/name_u]. And his grandfather calls him [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m]! I think it’s the cutest thing ever!

[name_u]James[/name_u] is around 2 now. And he has started to demand people to call him [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] instead. Haha

I second the middle name suggestions that other people have given above, and I think [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] is great!
As for [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m], I love it! The only person I know named [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] is a teenager and is just about the funniest person I know, so I think it wears great on someone younger and is fresh for a comeback!

I think the name [name_u]James[/name_u] with the nickname [name_m]Jim[/name_m] or [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] is adorable! I love the vintage vibe it gives.
