Jameson and Jack?

What do you think of the pair? Does your brain automatically go to ‘whiskey’?

Our son is [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u] (among a zillion other nicknames). We are considering the name [name_m]Jack[/name_m] if number 2 is a boy. I really do love it! But just worried about the whiskey association. Also, my husband and I both have names that start with ‘s’. So would it be weird to have two ‘s’ names and two ‘j’ names? Would future children be required to have a ‘j’ name? And is ‘[name_m]Jack[/name_m]’ lacking next to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]?

If you think it is a good match- do you have middle name ideas?

I didn’t think of whiskey until you mentioned it, but now that you mentioned it, that’s what I think of. Honestly, neither name is my style, but if it weren’t for the whiskey thing, I would say they sound fine together. I wouldn’t do [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] though because that would be too matchy. I like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] from your signature with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. What other names do you like?

Unless his middle name is [name_m]Daniels[/name_m] I don’t see the alcohol as a problem. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a completely respectable name and I don’t think the fact that it’s used in something other than a persons name is a big deal. I also don’t feel like your other children would have to have J names unless you really wanted to use J names. So I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is completely usable and really like it  [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] sound nice together too!

Like pp said, unless [name_m]Daniels[/name_m] is in there somewhere I dont think of the whiskey. I dont particularly like using the same initial because as you mentioned, you may feel limited if you have further children and want to carry on the pattern. Personally to me [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is very boring, especially next to gorgeous [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]! What about [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]? I quite like the -son pattern!

I REALLY like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] together! I didn’t think of the whiskey association until you mentioned it. There’s absolutely no problem at all when it comes to the 2-S-names and 2-J-names thing. For the most part, you’ll be known as mommy and daddy not by your first names, anyway  As for the J names pattern, the general “rule” as i’ve heard it on these forums is “two kids with the same initial is coincidence, but three kids with the same initial is a theme.” So basically, with a third, you could break the J-mold and it would be fine, or you could stick with another J-name and it might complicate the 4th child, if you choose to have one. But if I remember correctly you were only planning on having two, so maybe four would be stretching it. I do have a niece/nephews who are [name_u]Carson[/name_u], Cr0sley and [name_m]Mathieu[/name_m], and [name_m]Mathieu[/name_m] gets along just fine despite not being a “C.” It’s actually never even come up before. So I think you’d be safe!

As for middles, I know you have been tossing [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] around, and I think that sounds great with [name_m]Jack[/name_m]! [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is very handsome.

Thanks for the input! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] your brains don’t immediately go to the whiskey!

I do agree it sounds a bit bland next to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. But honestly, most of our options feel that way to me. And I don’t think of it as a bad ‘Bland’. To me, [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] is classic with a modern/trendy twist, and a little dash of Irish.

The other names on our list are -

[name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Callen[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]

As popular as [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Liam[/name_m] are, I’ve never met one personally or heard it on the playground. In just the past couple of weeks I’ve heard two or three [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s and finleys. I’ve never heard of a [name_m]Callen[/name_m]. But I have heard a million Kellens, Kellers, Calvins, etc.

It’s so hard to pick a name for a second child- especially of the same gender! Boys names were hard enough the first go round!

@meyera-

I just noticed your signature!! Expecting #2?! [name_m]How[/name_m] exciting! I’ve been on a break from the TTC/expecting threads, after my two consecutive chemical pregnancies. We are ready to get back in the saddle this month! Hoping for a [name_f]May[/name_f] baby!!! But anyways, congrats!!
