I’d like to honor my bff in the future whenever I have a kid. Her name is [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], and I’m having such a hard time pairing it as a middle name. Can’t have it as a first name because of family members. Anyone have any thoughts on what the first/or middle name should be, or different variations?(not james, or jameson)

sO it depends how close you want to stick to the name but there’s tonnes of honoury ways.

So a couple of close straight up names could be something like [name_u]Jay[/name_u], [name_u]Jayme[/name_u], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Amie[/name_f] etc, something taken directly from the name.

The name [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] comes from [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] (I believe), so [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]/other [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] family names might suit.

You could use anagrams of her name, the only one not super close to [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] that I found is Mejia, it’s a Spanish surname.

Using any J, Ja, [name_m]Jam[/name_m] etc starting name or any ie/mie ending name

Or, of course choosing something special in your friendship or using a middle/last name in stead as inspiration.

Since [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] is a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u], how about another [name_u]James[/name_u] nn? My favourite is [name_u]Jem[/name_u], which would be a pretty cool middle name for a boy or a girl.

I know you said no [name_u]James[/name_u] but I think it would make things a whole lot easier if you’d reconsider! I’m a [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] (female) and we understand it’s a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u] - I’d be over the moon if my best friend told me she chose [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle name to honor me. Similarly, I wouldn’t necessarily use her first name - an Irish form of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] - for my children, because of how difficult it is to spell/pronounce, but [name_f]Mary[/name_f] itself is absolutely on my shortlist as a nod to her.

What about international variations of [name_u]James[/name_u]? If you liked the anagram idea of Mejia, does that mean you find names like [name_m]Diego[/name_m], [name_m]Santiago[/name_m]/[name_m]Tiago[/name_m]/[name_m]Thiago[/name_m], and [name_m]Iago[/name_m] accessible? If not, what about [name_m]Seamus[/name_m], or [name_m]Jacques[/name_m]? Taking [name_u]James[/name_u] all the way back to Hebrew for [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] is another good idea.
