Jane Austen names

What are your favorite [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] names for boys?

Would you like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] or Bingley as middle names?

I think they work as middle names. I would also like [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] as a fn, but I think the full [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] is a bit too much as a fn.

Can never go wrong with [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]

I really like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] & Bingley too. I think [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] would work as a first name, but Bingley I would keep in the middle (even though I actually like it more than [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]!).

I also like [name_m]Bennet[/name_m](t), [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_u]George[/name_u], [name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_m]Bertram[/name_m], [name_m]Earl[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Frank[/name_m], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Saul[/name_m], [name_u]Vernon[/name_u], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Weston[/name_m], and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].

Darcy here too, although I do like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] with the nickname [name_m]Fitz[/name_m].

I’m not keen on Bingley, to be honest — there’s something about the sound that makes it sound like a sort of comedy stooge name.

I like [name_m]Bennet[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Bertram[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] a lot from @futuremama’s list, and I actually think [name_u]Austen[/name_u] would make for a handsome name for a boy too.

Darcy is by far and away the best (although least subtle) nod to [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u]’s male characters.

I do like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] but more as a mn. Others although they all seem to be rather bad-boy characters

Willoughby
[name_m]Churchill[/name_m]
[name_m]Thorpe[/name_m]
[name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]

On the good guy side what about [name_m]Brandon[/name_m]?

[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] & [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] are both fantastic! Bingley I’m not too sure on. I like the character, of course, but I’m struggling to picture it being worn as a name irl (besides a surname). I think @katinka nailed it here:

[name_u]Willoughby[/name_u] is fantastic, but I’m not sure the character is an ideal namesake, tbh.

Others I like or even love:
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Reginald[/name_m]
[name_m]William[/name_m]

[name_m]Allen[/name_m]
[name_m]Bennet[/name_m]
Knightley
[name_m]Watson[/name_m]
[name_m]Weston[/name_m]

I totally understand why people love [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u] - I love the sound of it myself. But as a die-hard [name_u]Austen[/name_u] fan from age twelve, I find it really hard to get behind giving a child this name if the intent is really to name him after the character… If the intent is just that it’s a liked surname like any other surname then that’s a bit different I think.
Because…
It’s a character who seduces an underage girl, blatantly lies to her, impregnates her and then abandons her (and his child), literally leaving the girl to die in an abject state. He never makes any attempt to atone for this. The whole “point” of [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]’s evolution in Sense & Sensibility is to grow up and out from under the spell of [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u]. Anyway I just wouldn’t want to appear to be passing on an idolization of this guy to the pro-female-empowerment son I’d be trying to raise, you know? Is it just me?
But there are many other [name_u]Austen[/name_u] names to have crushes on! I especially love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], Knightley, and Wentworth.

@Peanut you’re right of course, but if we’re talking just about appealing [name_u]Austen[/name_u] names then I couldn’t not mention [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u]! Such a shame the character is so awful

It really is
