What do you think? What do you associate with [name]Janine[/name]?
to be honest… i knew two really really trashy girls with that name… sorry
To me it feels a little dated, but that might be because the only Janines I know are in there thirties
It might be dated, but I have good associations with the name. It could be a nice middle name.
I feel the same way as the above posters. I know of some not so tasteful [name]Janine[/name]'s who were friends with my parents and would be in their late 30’s-40’s now. The name just feels dated to me. I think [name]Jane[/name] would be a nicer, more classic way to use the name, as [name]Janine[/name] is a french form of [name]Jane[/name].
It doesn’t really have pizazz.
Actually, 30’s and 40’s is the perfect age bracket. You see, the name is not for a baby. My parents named me before they ever thought of living in the US. I therefore ended up with a name that’s difficult to pronounce in English, let alone spell. It doesn’t lend itself to nicknames in English either. The closest would be pronounced “Yannie” and I loathe it! [name]Yan[/name]'s bad too. Reminds me of that old show, “[name]Yan[/name] Can Cook”. However, my name sounds somewhat like “[name]Janine[/name]” so I’m weighing whether I should do what I should’ve done decades ago – change it or at least use [name]Janine[/name] as a nickname. The drawback to the nickname option is that [name]Janine[/name] is a full name, not a nickname. It’s rather like saying, “[name]Hi[/name], my name is [name]Mikhail[/name] but please call me [name]Michael[/name].” In that case, I should just go ahead and change it. [name]Janie[/name] is another nickname possibility but it doesn’t age well and it doesn’t go with my married name at all, which sounds like Confetti. So, I’m still weighing my options.
That’s my mothers name and I really like it,how ever it doesn’t have a very youthful feel about it.it makes a really good middle name though, especially if it’s a tribute to a parent/grandparent.
