I don’t know very much about Japanese names, but [name_u]Rio[/name_u] comes to mind. Good luck!

Hi! How about:

  • Hana
  • Mei
  • Emi
  • Ema
  • Sora

Emi
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] (different pronunciation but perfect crossover)
[name_f]Noemie[/name_f]
People say my name, [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], is very easy to pronounce and remember, again, it sounds very different but it works
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Demi[/name_f]
[name_f]Kiki[/name_f]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Giada[/name_f]
[name_f]Giana[/name_f]
[name_f]Io[/name_f]
[name_f]Becca[/name_f]
[name_f]Polina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sara[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]

I’ll come back later with more.

I thought of these…
[name_u]Maria[/name_u]
[name_u]Marie[/name_u] (pronounced mah-ree-eh in Japanese)
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Alina[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lina[/name_f]/Rina
[name_f]Erica[/name_f]
[name_f]Sara[/name_f]
[name_f]Kiara[/name_f]
[name_f]Karina[/name_f]

I’ve heard of Japanese women with these names, but I should say that I’m not Japanese so I don’t know what the exact connotations of these names are.

I would say your best bet is to avoid names that heavily feature sounds that aren’t part of the Japanese language. So no L’s or V’s as they’ll just be pronounced as R’s and B’s (though if this doesn’t bother you, then go ahead with the L and V names). You might also want to consider names that are also shared by well-known Western celebrities as people will already be familiar with them. I taught [name_f]English[/name_f] in Japan for awhile and thought people might have trouble with my first name because it’s longer but because there was a celebrity with the same name, everyone already knew how to pronounce it. I would say overall you’d want to go with a shorter name just because that’ll be easier for people to pronounce (ie, [name_f]Maya[/name_f] would be easier than [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]).

My suggestion would be [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]/Hana. You have nice meanings in both languages and easy for everyone to pronounce.

This might be of use!

I love [name_f]Emiko[/name_f]! It’s a Japanese name meaning “A child blessed with beauty” and I think it works well for [name_f]English[/name_f] speakers too. It fits in with the ‘[name_f]Em[/name_f]’ trends and gives you nicknames like [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_u]Coco[/name_u]/Koko, [name_u]Miko[/name_u], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]… so fun!

Oh and [name_f]Reina[/name_f], which I don’t see mentioned here yet.

Also [name_f]Renata[/name_f] works but [name_f]Reina[/name_f] is a native Japanese name so that is an excellent crossover.

Naomi
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]/Maiya
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]/Miya
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]/Mei
[name_u]Kaya[/name_u]/Kaiya
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]/Hana
[name_f]Emme[/name_f]/Emi

I believe these are all international names that happen to work/be used in Japan if that’s what you’re looking for. (I’ve never been to Japan but have several good Japanese-American friends, and friends who live in Japan.)

There are also some downright gorgeous Japanese girls’ names, too!

If your living in Japan hopefully you can get some good feedback and suggestions!
