I also wanted to mention that in Japanese all vowels are pronounced, so some of these pronunciation keys pps have given are incorrect. For example, [name]Raiden[/name] is not [name]Ray[/name]-din (they do use this pronunciation in the Mortal Kombat games, but that is the only place I have seen, and I think it is more for the benefit of us silly Americans who can’t say things correctly), but the correct pronunciation should be closer to Rah-ee-den, or said quickly [name]Ry[/name]-den.
I thought ai was long I; isn’t [name]Mai[/name] my, not may or ma-ee? Or is that only at the end of a word? Or is it just as variable as in English?
@apemac15 - I’m certainly not an expert on Japanese names but my sources for the “ray-din” pronunciation were numerous baby name websites and books. Perhaps they should correct their information if it’s not accurate. It can be pronounced “rye-din” too but I just stated the main pronunciation that was given during my investigation. I found your comment “silly Americans” quite offensive and I’m not even American myself. In my opinion, there are alot of intelligent Americans who know how to pronounce names, many of whom post here on Nameberry. No people or culture should be generalized in such a way.
