Jasmine

I have recently started loving [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]. At first, it was more of a GP, but I keep thinking of it more and more. It’s a beautiful flower name with many nn options, my favourite of which being [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]. Furthermore, it’s pronounceable in [name_m]French[/name_m] as well, though the prn is a bit different (English : [name_u]Jazz[/name_u]-Myn vs [name_m]French[/name_m] : Jass-Myn which has a soft J sound).

What are your thoughts about [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]? What kind of girl do you see when you hear the name? I want brutal, honest opinions please. Is it all Disney [name_f]Princess[/name_f] to you? Is it tacky?

Thank you in advance, berries!

I like it. It makes me think of the princess but it’s a good association. She has always been my favorite one! I think [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] suits dark-haired, spunky girls the best.

I love the flower–there are jasmine bushes growing all over the campus of my university and the whole place smells divine right now. But as a name, it just doesn’t quite do it for me, even though I want to like it. I think it’s the sound? I don’t know, something about [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] just feels flat.

I didn’t think of the disney princess, maybe because she isn’t one of the more common ones. I do feel that it is a bit dated, as everyone I’ve met named [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] is my age (20’s) or a bit older. I would personally go with [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] by itself, which is lovely.

Oh gosh. So I think this is a lovely name and the flower is divine, but I do tend to see it as a name like [name_f]Heaven[/name_f] and [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] – maybe because I’ve met a couple who are kinda … trashy and tacky. It’s a little bit stripper for me. Sorry. :frowning:

And I feel like that disney princess has a very strange figure, which is my other association.

I do quite like [name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f] / [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f].

Thank you so much, everyone!

Aym, you pretty much just described my biggest worry about [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]! Eeek, I definitely don’t want my daughter to have a trashy name. I was hoping that along with the other flower names being so popular right now (ie. [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], etc.) it might regain some sort of class.

[name_u]Boo[/name_u], I’m sad. But I have to admit I kind of expected it. I was just in denial  I’ll keep it on my guilty pleasures’ list for now. [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] has a pretty sound, but I find it a bit made-up looking. Mind you made-up is better than stripper haha. Thanks again everyone!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], everyone has always complimented my name. Pronounciation wise, [name_m]Jas[/name_m] and [name_u]Min[/name_u] they’re equal in terms of emphasis. I’m kind of tomboyish, however, I have the occasional girly girl attitude. I have brown hair and green eyes. I love my name and I’m only 16!

I agree with you about [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] sounding made up. It’s basically a mixture of [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], but I do love the nn [name_u]Jess[/name_u].

Best wishes,

[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]

Jupe/[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], thank you so much for replying! You have a very beautiful name.

[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] feels spunky and fun and a bit wild, but also prim and proper. Like an overgrown but pretty flower garden outside a historical stone farmhouse. There’s another [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] on Nameberry, her username’s jasmine.lee if you want to ask her about her experience with the name.

About the character- she was (and still kind of is) my favourite Disney princesses! My sister had a collection of stories involving the Disney characters (same idea as fan fiction, but published as an actual book) and she was one of the only ones who spoke her own mind and stood up for herself.

[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]'s on my name list, I had a friend from [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] named [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] - she was lovely, and the only connection I really have

I really want to love [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] - part of me thinks of the flower and it sounds gorgeous and exotic-yet-relatable.
However the other part of me thinks of the tacky Disney [name_f]Princess[/name_f] side. The princess herself is a nice reference… but… Disney

I prefer [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f].

Really don’t understand what is so wrong with Disney connections? Disney has used some lovely names, [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], even [name_f]Briar[/name_f], which is on your own list, [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

I’ve seen a few people rant about Disney’s tackiness - really don’t see why. Isn’t Disney a positive relation? It makes the name familiar and recognizable, and, in [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]'s case, helps draw away from the strong, negative stigma attached to it in the US.

Thank you for your inputs, Bonfireazalea, Oliviasarah & Lawsonhaley! I’ve personally never felt as though the Disney aspect would make it tacky; but I do think that many people, unfortunately, see it so. Which is very sad for me, since I love [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], but I wouldn’t want her to go through any judgement because of the name I picked for HER. I feel like everyone is pretty split on [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]! I will definitely keep it on my short-list while I think about it some more.

[name_u]Mickie[/name_u],

As someone with a lot of experience with this name it’s usually me bringing up the Disney connection (which I like quite a lot). [name_f]My[/name_f] name isn’t overly used, it comes with many nicknames and is known to many languages.

While it may be tacky to some people, it isn’t to me. Everyone I know loves my name, its a change on the [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]'s and even [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]'s that will join her in her life.

Best wishes,

[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]

In regards to my experience with [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], I don’t think it’s tacky at all, and I really don’t know why the Disney connection is horrible. I mean, I suppose it is for those who don’t want their child to be associated with the films; but I always liked Disney growing up and would’ve been honoured to share a name with a disney character. Being used in a Disney film, doesn’t make it any less beautiful or useable

I have known two Jasmines in my life, one who was a distant cousin that I rarely hear about, and the other is a younger sister of a good friend of mine named [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. She’s a really pretty girl with blue eyes and wispy curly hair, she’s smart, a good leader and an incredible actress.

I think [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] would be an adorable nickname! And I agree with Jupe/[name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], I’d rather pick something I love that’s a little dated (in some opinions) and set them apart without making up a name or going with something I am not as fond of.

I love this name! A friend has a little girl called [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] so it’s completely off the cards for me but I think it’s a beautiful name

I adore [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]. The only [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] I know is 13 (and has sisters named [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and [name_f]Holly[/name_f]). [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] is 100% my favourite flower (it smells [name_f]DIVINE[/name_f]!) and I love it!

Ahhhh thank you so much everyone! I really do love it… I’ve been falling more and more in love with it every day. I think you all have helped me decide to add it to my top names. ox

One of my best friends in university has since married and named her little girl [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]. So precious!

I really like [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] alot, my cousin had it on her list of baby names a few years back but ultimately went with something else.
Personally, I adore flower names and therefore I associate the name more with the flower and less with the Disney princess. I do think the princess aspect of the name will appeal to many little girls, but I can easily see any girl outgrowing the association and making the name her own.

I agree with @lawsonhaley that Disney does use many wonderful names.
