Javi for a First Name?

After months of going back and forth with names, H and I finally decided on the name [name_m]Javi[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] for our son…but I now find myself having second thoughts on using [name_m]Javi[/name_m] for a first name - and I would very much like some feedback from the community.

We realize that the name [name_m]Javi[/name_m] is the short form of “[name_m]Javier[/name_m]” (H’s middle name) - but we both love it (first-name nicknames are growing in popularity these days!), and we both agree that it is both unique and modern, weaves in some of H’s hispanic heritage, and works with [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] to somewhat dilute our very strong/common hispanic surname.

Thoughts on [name_m]Javi[/name_m] as a first name…and/or in combination with the middle name [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]?

Suggestions and comments are welcome

I personally don’t mind nicknames as first names, and I agree with you that [name_m]Javi[/name_m] feels fresh/modern. I think [name_m]Javi[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] flows nicely, although [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] might feel a bit out of place between [name_m]Javi[/name_m] and a ‘very strong/common hispanic surname’. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to think about…

Like you said nicknames as given names are definitely on trend right now, so a little [name_m]Javi[/name_m] would fit right in.
Though I would be prepared for people asking whether or not his name is [name_m]Javier[/name_m], or people just assuming that’s his name and calling him that. It’ll take a little correction from time to time but if that doesn’t bother you, and it’s the name you love I would say go for it.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] it! Great combo! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t even worry about trends.
