Jay as a catch-all honor name?

Hi all,

Both of my finance’s parents and both sets of his grandparents all have names starting with the letter J (including 3 Johns). We are ttc and have been discussing honor names.

Do you think Jay is a nice way to honor everyone or does it seem less meaningful since it encompasses so many people and nobody specifically? We could honor 3 people at once and use John which isn’t bad but it’s not really my favorite choice.

Hopefully that makes sense. We are thinking if we use honor names then they would go in the middle spot.

Top contender at the moment is Nolan Jay. Fiance also likes Isaac John. We both like Zane as a John variant as well but haven’t come up with a middle name yet

I personally think the that [name_u]Jay[/name_u] is a great way to honour everyone, and it doesn’t seem less meaningful. The coincidence that all of his grandparents have names that start with J is meaningful in my opinion. I love the combo of [name_u]Nolan[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] too!

I think [name_u]Jay[/name_u] totally works! A nice way to honour several people and [name_u]Nolan[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] is a nice choice

I think it’s perfect! I’m planning something similar with the middle name [name_u]June[/name_u]. It was my grandmother’s middle name, my OHs grandmother’s middle name that she used as a first, but it’s also the birth month of loads of important people in my life (mum, dad, niece, nephew, dog). So I love a name that can honour loads of important people in one.

Yes I think so! We are planning to use [name_m]Jack[/name_m] when we have a boy to honour 4 John’s and [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]. [name_u]Jay[/name_u] is another great option.

John is a name with a ridiculous number of international variants! Just check some of them out & I’ sure you’ll find one you love!

And yes, I wouldn’t see Jaya as an honor.

[name_u]Jay[/name_u] seems like a nice honor for those names!

[name_u]Jay[/name_u] seems like a lovely connection to his grandparents and great-grandparents! Combined with the fact that you seem to prefer it, I think it makes a great choice :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I love [name_u]Jay[/name_u], it’s short and sweet and works with most names (first or middle). [name_f]My[/name_f] eldest son is [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] so I (obviously) love it.

I think it’s a wonderful way to honor so many people who are important in your lives! I’d definitely seize that opportunity! [name_u]Jay[/name_u] also feels fresher than [name_m]John[/name_m] to me. [name_u]Nolan[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] is very handsome!

I definitely see it as an honour! I know a little girl whos middle name is just ‘J’, in honour of a special family member so I think it totally works.

Biased here but [name_u]Jay[/name_u] is a sweet name (it’s my SO’s name). It’s very friendly and makes a great nickname.

I think it’s perfect!
