Hello, all! This is not for a real baby, but potentially for a character. I just want to know what you think of this name: its “vibes”, connotations, imagery, etc. Thank you!
[name_m]How[/name_m] are you pronouncing it—does the first syllable rhyme with “may” or “my”?
ETA: I think the vibe depends on the pronunciation. Rhyming with “may,” the name feels gentle and sunny, with a quiet strength. Rhyming with “my,” it’s got energy and spunk, feels bold and powerful.
Immediately think of Putrajaya, the city but that’s only cause I lived in [name_f]Malaysia[/name_f]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t think the average person would think about it. I also like the meaning of it.
Rhyming with “may”
To me [name_f]Jaya[/name_f] seems like a character that is tough and tomboy-ish. Makes me think of a girl on the shorter side with freckles and an “I don’t care what you think about me” sort of attitude if that makes sense hahah.
I would say it JAI-uh at first because that’s how I pronounce -aya names ([name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Raya[/name_f], etc.) and I definitely prefer that way because I think it sounds stronger. [name_u]Jay[/name_u]-uh sounds a bit more wishy-washy, maybe like a slightly awkward and nerdy but lovable girl. [name_u]Jai[/name_u]-uh sounds like more of the warrior type.
Jaya is pretty and cool and I feel like it’s versatile enough to work on a variety of characters! I could see it on a character in a fantasy world or in our world in 2020.
Jaya feels exotic and interesting. I has quite floral imagery
