My husband’s family has sort of a tradition to name their first boy “[name_u]Jay[/name_u].” My husband’s grandfather was [name_u]James[/name_u] who went by [name_u]Jay[/name_u] his entire life, my FIL is [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. who was J.J. as a child, shortened to [name_u]Jay[/name_u] as an adult. My husband is [name_m]Jason[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], aka [name_u]Jay[/name_u]. My husband is dead set on using the name [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] for our son due in [name_u]June[/name_u]. I don’t particularly love [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] and have suggested just using [name_m]Jason[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. but he’s not interested in having a junior.
I’m hoping to find a name that can easily be nicknamed [name_u]Jay[/name_u]. Also, what do you think of [name_u]Jayden[/name_u]?
I’m not a big fan of [name_u]Jayden[/name_u]. It seems like a modern invented name which I don’t usually like. I do like nickname [name_u]Jay[/name_u], but do you need something else to call him since dad is [name_u]Jay[/name_u]? I like [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] from pps.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will pass them along to my husband and see what he thinks. He’s not likely to change his mind, but I guess I can always just call him J.J. since I’m not the biggest fan of [name_u]Jayden[/name_u]. Also, we cannot use [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] as it is our nephew’s name otherwise we’d use that no questions asked.
I hate [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] and the [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] trend. You may want to Google the name “[name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u].” Like previous posters said, you can get to “[name_u]Jay[/name_u]” by using the initials "JJ.’’
Names that start with “jay”:
[name_m]Jabin[/name_m]
[name_u]Jameson[/name_u]/[name_u]Jamison[/name_u]–means "son of [name_u]James[/name_u]’’ so it would honor the other [name_u]James[/name_u]’ but it would be weird pairing it with [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle name
[name_m]Jabez[/name_m]
[name_m]Jachin[/name_m]–jay-kin
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_m]Jamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Javan[/name_m]
I just googled [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]. It’s a pornstar lol. That being said I also really dislike [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], and it’s not fair for you to dislike your own son’s name. There’s got to be a J name you can agree on?
This is why naming traditions are only nice to me if everyone is cool with it. But thats not usually the case. Why do they all have to be Js? Maybe it’s time to start a new tradition!
I thought the name was familiar, but I thought it was the name of one of Britney Spears’s sons–which it is, and I wanted to look it up to confirm, but all of the search results seemed to be of the other person.
[name_m]Jabin[/name_m] is a good alternative. [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] isn’t terrible though. I wouldn’t worry about the porn star. Considering the popularity of [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] as a first name and [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle name, I’m sure [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] isn’t an unusual combo.
I’m not a big fan of [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], although [name_u]Jayden[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] flows nicely.
I’ll second [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. If your husband is looking for both a ‘jay’ name and the double J initials, there are lots of names that could go as a middle:
[name_u]Jayden[/name_u] is a girls name to me… also, not really a fan I quite like the suggestions of [name_m]Jase[/name_m] or [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], something a bit more unique…
Would you consider using [name_u]James[/name_u] as a first? Your husband might like that it’s a family name without being a [name_m]Junior[/name_m]? [name_u]James[/name_u] also gives plenty of nickname options if he wants to use something else down the line (or with his friends/colleagues etc)
I know it’s your FIL’s name, but if you’re using J.J. for your son, maybe the repeated first isn’t such a problem like it might be in some families? Maybe [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Jason[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u] + one of the other J names suggested above ([name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Jagger[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] etc) or [name_u]James[/name_u] + your favourite middle name (unless you need 2 ‘J’ names).
I also know a few people called [name_u]Jay[/name_u] as a full name. But I can understand why you might want him to have his own name aside from the inherited nickname.
I like the suggestion of [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Jace[/name_u]? I think it’s a great, straightforward name with a modern feel.
