Ok berries, I need your opinions! I’ve recently taken a liking to the nn [name]Jem[/name] for a little boy. I love that it is vintage, solid, and has literary connections [To Kill a Mockingbird and [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables]. I don’t like [name]Jeremy[/name] or [name]Jeremiah[/name] though, so in another forum I asked about other ways to get to [name]Jem[/name]. [name]Benjamin[/name] was suggested, and I thought it was brilliant! I love classic and biblical names and it fit into both catergories. Plus the nn [name]Jem[/name] makes [name]Benjamin[/name] feel fresh, to me anyways. His middle names would be [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Makai[/name]. So, what do you think of
[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Makai[/name] nn [name]Jem[/name]
Also, how do you picture a [name]Jem[/name]? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Being a child of the 80’s, when I think of [name]Jem[/name], I think of the (truly outrageous) [name]Barbie[/name] type doll. I just thought I would mention it in case you weren’t familiar with that association.
I adore [name]Jem[/name]! It’s so laid back and friendly, but still has a touch of the handsome about it - comparable to [name]Kit[/name], in my mind, which I also like.
[name]Benjamin[/name] is such a handsome name, and with [name]Jem[/name] to make it that little more unusual and fun, I think it is perfect. I like [name]Makai[/name] in the mix to balance out the other two, very classic, names.
Attempting to discard what I presume a [name]Jem[/name] would be like based on To Kill A Mockingbird, I would say that a [name]Jem[/name] would be a friendly boy, good at sports and cheerful, who grows up to be a handsome, popular man. So, all good!
love love [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Jem[/name]!! Its second on my list of boys names - im partial to [name]Jeremy[/name] because i also like the option of [name]Remy[/name], another name i adore. jem to me is always associated with to kill a mockingbird, which is just the way i like it getting jem from benjamin though, im not fussed on - i think its a wee bit of a stretch. another option, suggested to me by someone else is Jerusalem. Not a big fan of it myself, but i thought i’d just add a bit more to the discussion!
[name]Jem[/name] is so sweet, and has awesome literary associations! I always liked L.M. [name]Montgomery[/name]'s way of getting it - [name]James[/name] [name]Matthew[/name].
I love [name]Jem[/name]; definitely think of TKAMB, not a [name]Barbie[/name] (and none of his peers will know that reference anyway). I agree that [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Makai[/name] seems like a mouthful, and I think it’s mostly due to [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] have similar syllable-counts and rhythms. I would go with [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]John[/name] [name]Makai[/name], but perhaps [name]Jonathan[/name] has family significance? [name]James[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Makai[/name] or [name]James[/name] [name]Makai[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] are ok, too.
It is our top choice for our upcoming boy as well! I think it works with the middle names you have chosen. And, I’ve been hoping that others would see the great potential in this underused boy name! Go for it! Feels strong and friendly!
