Jem?

Would probably be used as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]. Is the TKAM association good or too much? I’ve also heard some people say [name_u]Jem[/name_u] sounds very feminine. What are your thoughts on the name?

I have a [name_u]Jem[/name_u] - needless to say I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it! We love TKAM, so it definitely influnced our choice, but unlike [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], it’s not too TKAM…It’s also an honor name for us. We do get asked if it’s short for something, but I still think it works on its own.

I’ve never read TKAM, personally, so that association isn’t even there for me. I think it’s a perfectly fine nickname, and definitely not too feminine. Although I’ve only ever used it in conjunction with being a more neutral nickname for [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], I can definitely see it as a nickname for [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], or any kind of name like that.

I think it’s cute! I don’t even know what TKAM is so I wouldn’t worry about that

I love [name_u]Jem[/name_u]! I also think people associate [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] more strongly with TKAM than [name_u]Jem[/name_u], and that hasn’t slowed them down.

I love [name_u]Jem[/name_u], esp. as a nn for [name_u]James[/name_u] or something. I think it stands alone too. It’s so lovely. And while it does have a slightly feminine quality to it, it definitely could work on a boy.

I think it would be really cool and pretty on a boy

Reminds me of a gemstone

[name_u]Jem[/name_u] is a lovely name! Definitely a good association in relation to the book.

I like [name_u]Jem[/name_u], especially as a nn for [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m].

I don’t think the TKAM link would be most people’s first thought about it, and I don’t think it’s a feminine nn. (Although it could be used for [name_f]Jemma[/name_f]/[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] I believe traditionally it’s all boy.)

[name_u]Jem[/name_u] is a great name not too associated w the book and not fem.

I love it. TKAM is my favorite book, but I don’t think most people would immediately think of it. Especially people who haven’t read the book; while they might know [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] or [name_u]Scout[/name_u], I don’t think [name_u]Jem[/name_u] would jump out at them as being TKAM related.
