Jersey

One of my favorite things to do is to find new names and then ask about them. So, here it goes… [name_u]JERSEY[/name_u]?

[name_u]Jersey[/name_u] Shore is still the first thing I think of, which is silly since that would be a pretty obscure reference to any kid born nowadays. Then I think of the fabric. Then I think of the sports jersey. Actually, it could be cool for a sporty family. It’s more roundabout than naming a child after an actual athlete.

I don’t mind the sound of it at all, I think it actually flows nicely. But I can’t get past the above references. I do think it’s better on a boy than a girl, though.

Sorry I think of [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] cows. My ex in laws once had a herd of [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] milking cows.

I am torn on this one! I think the written name looks nice. That might sound weird but I just like the look of it! It looks modern and interesting. It sounds nice when said softly. (But then most names can be forced to sound bad with harsh pronunciation.) And I love the association of the island of [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] in the English [name_f]Channel[/name_f] - beautiful place! Also it’s forever associated with the McClure (YouTubers) baby, [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] Tayo McClure. And he is adorable.

but…I can’t get away from the sports jersey association when I say it. It’s like using hoodie or sweater as a name. Combined with the cow thing, I have to vote no. Great character name but I wouldn’t chose it for my baby.

Eek, not a fan - brings to mind sweaty stinky sport jerseys :frowning:

I like the Polish [name_m]Jerzy[/name_m] (YEZH-ee), but not so much [name_u]Jersey[/name_u], I’m afraid. Being from the UK, it conjures up a rather stodgy image of [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] cows and farmers’ jumpers.

Upon seeing [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] my mind immediately floats to rolling hills, green fields lined with white fences, and grazing [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] cows. It’s pleasant imagery and doesn’t bother me as an association with a name. Then, however, the unfortunate [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] Shore comes to mind…

I’m not a fan.

Ehhh…I’m in the States and [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] just makes me think of [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_u]Jersey[/name_u]! There are jokes about it being the armpit of [name_u]America[/name_u] (not my personal opinion, no offense intended!)
Maybe it would have use outside the US

I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_u]Jersey[/name_u] so that’s weird to me. I also hate when people call NJ [name_u]Jersey[/name_u]…no one here calls it that but whenever I go out of state people are always like “oh you’re from [name_u]Jersey[/name_u]!” It’s also just nms as a name

A jersey is an article of clothing, not a name. I wouldn’t even consider it a place name as I think it is way more connected to the clothing than anything else.

I think it would work perfectly well as a name. It seems to fit nicely with other unisex place names/word names and has the -ee sound ending.

Thank you guys for your opinions. I have no feelings attached to the name, just heard it and was curious what people thought. I agree: it COULD sound cool but I think of the shirt, jersey, and that isn’t great.
