Jessa and Ben Seewald Baby #6

I don’t usually make threads like this and am certainly not a fan of the Duggars, but I definitely have a curiosity about this particular baby name, and I thought it could be a fun discussion!

Jessa and Ben Seewald are expecting their sixth baby, sibling to Spurgeon Elliott, Henry Wilberforce, Ivy Jane, Fern Elliana, and George Augustine. I don’t believe the baby’s sex has been announced.

I thought it’d be interesting to hear your predictions for baby #6, particularly because their style seems to be evolving with each child. I’d say they have quite a cohesive set with first names, apart from Spurgeon, who makes it a bit difficult for me to get a read on their style. I do quite enjoy the kids’ names, though!

Any thoughts, predictions, or guesses? I’ll try to come back later with a list of my own!

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]

Ooh, I could definitely see [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] for them!

I’m also interested to see what they choose! From what I remember, there was talk when [name_m]Spurgeon[/name_m] was born that they were going to call him [name_m]Elliot[/name_m], but it appears that never did happen. I also vaguely remember some discussion about how [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] chooses the first names and [name_m]Ben[/name_m] chooses the middle names (although they flipped it for Spurgeon). [name_m]Ben[/name_m] seems to go for theologian (specifically Calvinist) names as boy middle names, and I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is after [name_f]Lady[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Grey[/name_m]? [name_f]Elliana[/name_f] is a bit of a wildcard, but I assume they chose it for the meaning (though the double ‘l’ has always puzzled me a bit).

[name_f][/name_f]

I can see [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] for a girl, especially in reference to “pearl of great price”. It does feel slighly close to [name_m]Spurgeon[/name_m] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] to me, but this is a family centered around 19 kids starting with J so… :woman_shrugging:

[name_f][/name_f]

On to my suggestions –

[name_f][/name_f]

For girls, there’s definitely an established(?) botanical theme, but I could see them branching out into nature-adjacent choices. Along the same lines as [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], something like [name_f]Ruby[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] or [name_f]Opal[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]. I would also love to see them with an [name_f]Olive[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] (biblical imagery!). A few others for first names: [name_f]June[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] / [name_f]Junia[/name_f][name_f][/name_f], [name_f]Dove[/name_f][name_f][/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f][name_f][/name_f], [name_f]Eden[/name_f][name_f][/name_f], [name_f]Calla[/name_f][name_f][/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]. Wildcard pick is [name_f]Piper[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] after [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_f]Piper[/name_f]. I also think they might use this as a middle for boy or girl.

[name_f][/name_f]

For boys, I am shocked[name_f][/name_f] there is not already a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] in the family. I especially like it for the Seewalds as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Beza was a successor to [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]. Speaking of which, [name_m]Calvin[/name_m][name_f][/name_f]? I assume they’ve probably already considered it and it’s too “on the nose”. Maybe as a middle? Other first names: [name_m]Arthur[/name_m][name_f][/name_f], [name_m]Francis[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] (maybe too Catholic, but [name_m]Francis[/name_m] Schaeffer was a Calvinist apologist. How cute would [name_m]Frankie[/name_m] be?), [name_m]Edward[/name_m][name_f][/name_f], [name_m]Simon[/name_m][name_f][/name_f], [name_m]Owen[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] (after [name_m]John[/name_m] Owen). Wildcard is [name_m]Abraham[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] or [name_m]Bram[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] after [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] Kuyper.

[name_f][/name_f]

Middles are fun, because I feel like I definitely have an idea of where they’re choosing from (excepting Elliana).

[name_f][/name_f]

Middle name picks:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Anselm[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Luther[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Knox[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Hodge[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Kuyper
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dietrich[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gresham[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] / [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (probably don’t need another [name_f]El[/name_f]- middle name, though)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Katharina[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Pepper[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Moon[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] / [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aletheia[/name_f]

[name_f]June[/name_f] was the first to pop into my mind for a little girl! I can totally see [name_f]Olive[/name_f] or [name_f]Dove[/name_f]. These boys, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] especially, are all great. Interesting middle choices, too! I could see [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Gresham[/name_m], and [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f]!

Hm… I’m not overly familiar with the Duggars and I think it’s probably best for my emotional health that it stays that way, so I will base my guesses purely on the sibset! I’ll probably suggest names that have already been used, given that I gather there about a hundred of them.
For a girl, is it possible they might continue the plant theme - I think Dahlia, Flora, Primrose and Posy would all work with sibset. I can also see them leaning into the vintage cottagecore ‘trad’ aesthetic that’s so trendy at the moment with something like Martha, Lois, Frances or Mabel (those are just the names of Ballerina Farm’s kids, lol).
For a boy they might go full Protestant-core with something like Neville, Leonard, Ford, Knox, Luther or Lewis (are they the kind of fundies who like C.S. Lewis or the kind who think he’s a demon?!). Or they might go classic like Gregory, Simon, Walter, Alfred or Paul.

[name_f]Every[/name_f] time I see this sibling set I get a little miffed that the eldest is [name_m]Spurgeon[/name_m] [name_m]Elliott[/name_m] instead of [name_m]Elliott[/name_m] [name_m]Spurgeon[/name_m] haha :joy:

[name_f][/name_f]

For a girl I’m thinking they will stick with a vintage nature name or something closely related. I really like the suggestions of [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Posie[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Laurel[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

For boys I definitely think that we will see another traditional boys name for a first name and a biblical themed middle. I love the suggestions of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] for them!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (another Duggar sib used it as a middle so probably not)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]James[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Philip[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Everett[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Thomas[/name_m]

Whenever I hear of another Duggar baby, I’m always intrigued about what the name will be…especially Jessa’s! They pick some interesting ones for sure!

[name_f][/name_f]

I like a lot of names others brought up! I think my guesses this time will be [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].

I hate that I know this, but it’s been said that Jessa’s husband picked the name [name_m]Spurgeon[/name_m] and [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] has picked every name since! Not sure how true that is, but it makes sense in terms of the style disparity.

That would definitely make sense!

So so so many good guesses here! I can totally see Posy, Lois, Leonard, Lewis, Walter, Rose, Hazel, and Peter from all of your predictions!

[name_f][/name_f]

Since when [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] is earthside!? I did not even notice! I am so out of the loop. I still remember the birth announcements of Ivy’s and Fern’s!
