Joey for a girl. Thoughts?

Not a nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_u]Joey[/name_u] as a baby girls name. What are your thoughts?

I think it works. It fits in with the Frankies and Charlies. I love the nickname [name_u]Jo[/name_u], so the fact that that would also be an option for a female [name_u]Joey[/name_u] is an added plus in my mind.

I think it’s fine as a nickname, but as a full name it doesn’t appeal to me personally. For me it brings to mind the Friends character and I find it to sound both juvenile and masculine.

I love the name [name_u]Joey[/name_u] on a girl! I think that it’ll work perfect! I prefer it as a full name rather than a nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

I think it could work, but there is a very heavy male association to the name, imo.
I also think of [name_u]Joey[/name_u] from Friends tv show.

You might get alot of “is that short for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]?” comments.

I’d go for [name_f]Joy[/name_f] instead. It’s not exactly the same but it’s similar and clearly feminine, and you can call her [name_u]Joey[/name_u] if you want.

I think it could work

It sounds dated to me.

That being said, if I can get past my association of it being a tired tomboy nickname for an elegant feminine name, then I think it is not too different from [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] or [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]… though for me lacks in the beauty and charm that those names have.

I think it’s great! Fits in with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Billie[/name_u] and the like.
All the [name_u]Jo[/name_u] names I know sound so dated, I think [name_u]Joey[/name_u] on it’s own is fresh and interesting.
Only difference would be in spelling, I prefer [name_f]Joie[/name_f].

I definitely think it could work. As @llewthewolf mentioned, the popularity of “tomboy” nickname-names for girls like [name_u]Billie[/name_u] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] makes [name_u]Joey[/name_u] more acceptable and usable. However, I do think that a girl with this name might appreciate have a longer/more feminine name to fall back.

Also, have you considered [name_m]Jovi[/name_m]? Similar sounding, but I think it leans more feminine and you could then avoid having to often be clarifying her gender.

I think it works! My first association is [name_u]Joey[/name_u] [name_m]King[/name_m] who is a girl.

[name_f]Katie[/name_f] [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] played [name_u]Joey[/name_u] (short for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]) on [name_m]Dawson[/name_m]'s Creek in the late 90s/early 2000s. I thought it was cute.

I like it. I would probably prefer it short for [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] though.

It can definitely work.

I think it’s cute - on a girl it reminds me of [name_u]Joey[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] from [name_m]Dawson[/name_m]'s Creek.

I generally prefer diminutives to be nicknames for more formal given names, and this is no exception, but that’s a matter of personal taste. I would use [name_u]Joey[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], or [name_f]Joelle[/name_f], so I don’t see any reason why it can’t stand on its own if you like diminutive-style names.

Too childish for me, I’m afraid - lovely from babyhood to teens, rather cutesy for the adult she’ll be for most of her life.
