Joey for a girl?

Has anyone ever heard of this before or know what it might be short for? My guess is [name]Josephine[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you know of any girl named [name]Joey[/name] where its not short for anything, its just [name]Joey[/name]?

I knew an acquaintance in college with this name and I’ve always thought it was so cute, but maybe it was just b/c the girl was cute. I’ve also have met a girl before named [name]Mikey[/name]. NOT [name]Micky[/name] but [name]Mikey[/name]. And I once met a girl named [name]Teddy[/name], short for [name]Theadora[/name]. I’m usually about 50/50 on boys names for girls, but these 3 I really like. Maybe b/c the names alone aren’t unusual but on girls they kind of are and aren’t too masculine. Thoughts?

I think it’s more closely associated with Joanna/Johanna.as for boys names on girls, I really don’t see the appeal. There are tons of amazing girl names to choose from!

[name]Dawson[/name]‘s Creek - [name]Katie[/name] [name]Holmes[/name]’ character was called [name]Joey[/name], I believe. I don’t know if its short for anything.
I don’t like [name]Joey[/name] as a full name for a boy or girl personally - I think it would be nicer if [name]Joey[/name] was short for something else, [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Joanne[/name]…

[name]Joey[/name] on [name]Dawson[/name]'s Creek was short for [name]Josephine[/name], but I don’t know anyone in real life who goes by that name. I do know a [name]Joanne[/name] who goes by [name]Jo[/name].

I used to know a girl named [name]Joey[/name]. Her real name was [name]Lana[/name]; I have no idea where [name]Joey[/name] came from. [name]Johanna[/name] is a good option.

I think [name]Joey[/name] makes a cute tomboy nn for a girl, but I wouldn’t use it as a given name. [name]Johanna[/name], [name]Joanna[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] could all get the [name]Joey[/name] nn, though. I like [name]Johanna[/name] the best, then [name]Josephine[/name]. Not super fond of [name]Joanna[/name], as it seems dated to me.

I know a [name]Josephine[/name] who goes by [name]Joey[/name]. It works well for her, she is never called [name]Josephine[/name] I think it could work for any [name]Jo[/name]- name or even some J names.
I also think it could work well on its own- it seems feminine to me… But that could be because I know one!

There’s a character in Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner called [name]Joey[/name]. It’s the daughter marrying the black man. I remember thinking it was cool. It was short for [name]Joanna[/name]

That’s right! [name]Dawson[/name]'s Creek. Totally forgot about that show! Thx!

I don’t like [name]Joey[/name] or [name]Mike[/name] for girl name options. [name]Thea[/name] or [name]Theodore[/name] are super cute. Definitely prefer girl names for girls. [name]Just[/name] my two cents.

I had a sorority sister named [name]Joie[/name] (pn [name]Joey[/name]), and it was not a nn. I loved the way it was spelled b/c it reminds me of “joie de vivre” and just looked so cute and spunky. She was also cute and spunky, so it suited her well. Positive association with it for me!

I went to school with a girl called [name]Joey[/name]. Her name was short for [name]Jolene[/name]. I always liked it.

[name]Just[/name] like others have said, cute nn but wouldn’t be a full name imo. The first two full names I thought of for it though were [name]Joelle[/name] and Joselle.

My name is [name]Jodie[/name], and my family and close friends call me [name]Joey[/name]. Like others have said, it works better as a nn than a full name, but I think it’s an awesome nn.

Reminds me of [name]Jo[/name] from [name]Little[/name] Women and from the TV show Facts of Life. I know the first was a [name]Josephine[/name], and suspect the second one was too. [name]Joey[/name] from [name]Dawson[/name]'s Creek was definitely a [name]Josephine[/name].

I think it’s cute. Admittedly, I go by [name]Josie[/name] myself, as a NN, my name starts with [name]Jo[/name]- and then goes completely different.

[name]Johanna[/name] and [name]Joelle[/name] are my favourite non-[name]Josephine[/name] options.

Of my two girls one of them has the legal name of [name_u]Joey[/name_u]. She loves it, and it fits her personality.

There are two actresses whose first names are Joey (not nn as far as I can tell):Joey Lauren Adams, Joey King.

[name_u]Joey[/name_u] works just fine on a girl imo. There’s also an actress named [name_u]Joey[/name_u] [name_m]King[/name_m], she wears it well - not sure on her full name though!
