Johanna - pronounced with or without H?

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Johanna[/name], but I can’t figure out whether or not it is supposed to be said with the H. So, how do YOU pronounce it, and how do you most often hear it pronounced. And other quick question - do you prefer [name]Johanna[/name] or [name]Johannah[/name]?

Thanks!

My best friend’s name is [name]Johanna[/name]. Her parent’s pronounce it [name]Jo[/name]-[name]Hannah[/name], but everyone else pronounces it [name]Jo[/name]-HA-na. I like them both, and she often has to correct people pronouncing it [name]Jo[/name]-anna and [name]Jo[/name]-[name]Hannah[/name].

I would pronounce it with the hard “H,” like “[name]Joe[/name]-[name]Hannah[/name].” I prefer the [name]Johannah[/name] spelling.

I pronounce it with the “H”.

I pronounce it jo-HANN-a (like [name]Jo[/name]+[name]Hannah[/name]), so yeah, I pronounce the H.

I say the H: [name]Jo[/name]-HAHN-ah. That’s how a college friend pronounced her own name.

[name]Every[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] I know pronounces it [name]Jo[/name]-[name]Anna[/name], without the H.

I always pronounce it with the H, as in [name]JoHanna[/name], and I like the spelling [name]Johanna[/name] best.

With the H, and [name]Johanna[/name].

I prefer [name]Johanna[/name] and would pronounce with the H.
I know a few [name]Joanna[/name]'s so I would assume that the H is meant to pronounced.

I like [name]Johanna[/name] a lot! I say it like joe-HAH-nah. I prefer [name]Johanna[/name] to [name]Johannah[/name].

I’ve known a [name]Joanna[/name] and [name]Johanna[/name] and I think there’s no use having an “h” in there if it’s not pronounced. Most people would pronounce it “jo-[name]HANNAH[/name]” but I know in Germany and Scandinavia , it’s “yo-HAHN-uh”

I’m with ocross and mischa, if the h is there, then pronounce it with an h. Otherwise its [name]Joanna[/name]. I personally prefer [name]Johanna[/name] jo-ha-nuh. Like as is haha, not [name]Hannah[/name].

I would automatically pronounce it [name]Jo[/name]-anna.

[name]Johannah[/name] looks ‘h’ heavy to me. I prefer the spelling [name]Johanna[/name].

I pronounce it joe-HAH-nuh. HAH meaning [name]AH[/name], as in the most open/dark of [name]AH[/name] sounds. Close to the A sound in [name]Calm[/name].
But I did know a [name]Johanna[/name] that pronounced it as joe-HAA-nuh, like [name]Hannah[/name]. It’s so hard to describe these sounds without using phonetic characters!!

I pronounce [name]Johanna[/name] with the H, like [name]Joe[/name]-[name]Hannah[/name].
Put another way, think about the start of Johannesburg.
I prefer the spelling [name]Johanna[/name].
I knew one [name]Johanna[/name], who pronounced it [name]Joe[/name]-HAHN-ah, like more [name]German[/name].
That made total sense to me, but my default is [name]Joe[/name]-[name]Hannah[/name].
Probably because of the [name]Bob[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] song, visions of [name]Johanna[/name], where he sings in that way.
I know a [name]Joanna[/name], spelled that way, currently.

If the H is in there I pronounce it as [name]Jo[/name]-HAN-ah. If I’m not mistaken the Duggars have a [name]Johanna[/name] and pronounce her name with the H.

I prefer it spelled [name]Johanna[/name] and have only ever heard it with the h pronounced. I thought that without the h it is a different name, [name]Joanna[/name].

I pronounce it [name]Jo[/name]-HAHN-ah. I think this is the prettiest pronunciation, as well.

[name]Love[/name] this name!! I like it pronounced [name]Jo[/name] HAH nah. [name]Jo[/name] [name]Hanna[/name] is pretty as well but I happen to think that the HAH pronunciation is very pretty. This name also has a ton of great nn’s. [name]Jo[/name] and [name]Josie[/name] are my favs
