Jonah too close? Thoughts?

So after much debate, DH and I are seriously considering [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] if baby #2 is a boy. We figure it’s a good compromise as I wanted something vintage, familiar and charming (my top pick remains [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]), and he wanted something with solid nickname ability (think Ted, [name_m]Bill[/name_m], [name_m]Matt[/name_m], Etc.), and [name_m]Percival[/name_m] (I couldn’t come around to it). [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] fits my vintage and familiar requirement, and it can be shortened to [name_m]Joe[/name_m] for DH, so that works nicely.

But our son’s name is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. Is it too weird to have the second baby’s name be so close to [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]’s middle? Or is it fine?

What about [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] itself? Wdyt? Middle name would be family name [name_m]Martin[/name_m] ([name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is also a family name).

I think it’s fine.

I agree that it could work, but have you decided against [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] from your signature–or was that one of your husband’s picks? Other names that might meet both of your criteria could be [name_u]August[/name_u] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m], and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] or Ted or [name_m]Mundo[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] works well as a sibling of [name_m]Charles[/name_m] “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]”. I also think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] make a great sibling set. I think it’s perfectly fine with [name_m]Charles[/name_m]’ middle name. I really like [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m].

[name_m]Jonah[/name_m] is beautiful! I wouldn’t worry about middles.

If [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] had been your other sons first name then yes it would be too close, but as a middle name I wouldn’t even give it a second thought.

When you hear

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] ‘[name_u]August[/name_u]’ for example - I make absolutely no connection of the similarity.

I really like [name_m]Jonah[/name_m]. nn [name_m]Jon[/name_m], [name_m]Joe[/name_m] or [name_u]Joey[/name_u].

It’s completely fine.
