I’ve never considered it before, but my husband mentioned it the other day and I’m sort of loving it now!
We’re a bilingual family, and the baby will grow up in Central Europe and the US. So I like that the name has strong European roots, but is known in the US too. There are different pronunciations of [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] in the different languages, but I kind of love that he could have a different name for each culture/language he’s functioning in.
Any middle name ideas? [name_u]Or[/name_u] we’re open to using another first name and [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] as the middle (but calling him Jonas) if the flow is better.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] sweet [name_m]Jonas[/name_m]. Reminds me a lot of The Giver which consequently reminds me of one of my best friends I have had who both loved [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] and The Giver. I also like that it’s a variant of a family name, and would happily use it in their honor!
I’m woefully abysmal at finding [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] combos I like - I met someone on another name site who had a [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_u]William[/name_u], which I think is really lovely, but otherwise I mostly consider it as a middle because I’ve not found anything else I like with [name_m]Jonas[/name_m]. Maybe one of these will catch your facy?
Honestly [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] is so gorgeous has a lovely European flair he feels like a cooler more unexpected version of [name_u]Jonah[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] with the ‘s’ sound he feels stronger than [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] which feels softer with the ‘ah’ ending. [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] is lovely and the meaning ‘dove’ is an added bonus.
You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
I agree with a lot of what [name_f]Tori[/name_f] has said! [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] is my top name for a boy, should I ever have a son. It feels familiar, yet unexpected and it feels miles better than [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] in my opinion. It almost has a cowboy-ish vibe that I quite love. We are also a family of European heritage, living in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country, so I like that it translates so well.
Our combo for a boy is [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_u]Wilder[/name_u].
I adore the name [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], I think it’s woefully underrated and underused in English-speaking countries, although a classic in many parts of Europe.
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] has a sleek, solid, strong, easygoing appeal that feels effortlessly cool and timeless. To me, it has a very similar vibe to [name_u]Miles[/name_u] — even down to the cool musical ties — but is much less common (in the US).
Thanks so much for the feedback!! I’m glad to see the love [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] is getting. I feel like it’s one of the rare names I was coming into “blind” because while I’ve of course heard it, I’ve somehow never really had it on my radar. So I really appreciate your perspectives!
Such fabulous suggestions for alternatives and middle names - I love too many of them to list out here, actually! I’ve got a lot of sort through
I think [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] is lovely and a great international choice (even with the different pronunciations!)
As a middle name I would choose something like…
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Ives[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Matteo[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_u]Henry[/name_u]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
I think it’s a cool, artsy name. It’s universal and unexpected in English-speaking countries, but it has a Scandi-chic vibe to it that gives it some oomph over more neutral international names.
