Hello Berries!
After reading the forums just for fun for a few years now, it’s finally time for my first post! I am 15 weeks with our first (team green!) and already driving my husband crazy with names.
Crushing on [name_f]Joni[/name_f] ([name_u]Joan[/name_u]-ee) for a girl at the moment but having a tough time with a middle. Prefer something that is NOT 2 syllables as last name is also 2 syllables. Nature related is a major plus but not into the usual [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Rain[/name_u], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], etc.
I love the sound of [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] but worry the M is too reminiscent of [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] - a connection I’m okay with but NOT our reason for choosing the name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Joni[/name_f] is just too tied to the musician to hold its own regardless? Also, do you think [name_f]Joni[/name_f] would have many pronunciation and or spelling issues? [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t love the look of [name_f]Joanie[/name_f] quite as much.
I think the pronunciation is clear because of [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m]. [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is cute and not too similar to [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I love, love [name_f]Joni[/name_f]! It’s so cute but not in a way that’s too cutesy if that makes sense. As for pronunciation, it might occasionally get mispronounced or mispelled, but I think that’s just as likely with [name_f]Joanie[/name_f]. [name_f]Joni[/name_f] makes sense to me since there’s [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] and it’s like other names/words ([name_f]Toni[/name_f]/[name_u]Tony[/name_u], pony etc)
My fave [name_f]Joni[/name_f] combo is [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] but it might not be for you. [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is lovely though!!
I have no clue who [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] is. If I did, I probably would’ve known it is pronounced “joan-nee” and not “[name_m]Johnny[/name_m].”
My thought was [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_u]Rio[/name_u] but that doesn’t really meet your needs. [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is fine though.
I don’t know why but I quite like but don’t love [name_f]Joni[/name_f], even though I know it’s a cool, friendly name. I think I prefer [name_u]Joan[/name_u] nn [name_f]Joni[/name_f]/[name_f]Joanie[/name_f] but I get that isn’t worth it if you love [name_f]Joni[/name_f].
Anyway, I like [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] and since she won’t use her middle much, the [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] similarity isn’t worth worrying about.
I have a long term penpal named [name_f]Joni[/name_f] (he’s from Finland), so in my mind I keep switching between pronouncing it the finnish way and exactly like [name_m]Johnny[/name_m]. I wouldn’t, however, think it’s pronounced [name_u]Joan[/name_u]-ee in case you didn’t mention it. I have no clue who [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] is.
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] is so cute! In my mind, it’s pronounced [name_u]Joan[/name_u]-ee and I can’t think of it being pronounced [name_m]Johnny[/name_m]. To me, if there’s not a double letter after a vowel, it’s pronounced with with long vowel sound, and if there are double letters, it’s a short vowel sound. I know [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] can be used as a girls’ name, and some people may think [name_f]Joni[/name_f] is pronounced that way, but it looks much more like [name_u]Joan[/name_u]-ee than [name_m]Johnny[/name_m], so mispronunciation shouldn’t be a common issue. There may be misspelling issues, though, since there are several spelling variations of [name_f]Joni[/name_f]. I am vaguely familiar with [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] (did she sing Big Yellow Taxi? I’ll have to look it up.) but I don’t think she is very well known in the states. So the connection shouldn’t be a problem either. But if you really like [name_f]Joni[/name_f], I think you should go for it! It’s cute, ages well, and is underused.
I automatically read [name_f]Joni[/name_f] as [name_u]Joan[/name_u]-ee. I love the name! It’s a name I considered with my first but ended up using [name_u]Joan[/name_u] as her middle name instead.
I think [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] flows fine and I didn’t think of a resemblance to [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m].
Some other middle name ideas could be (although don’t fit your requirements):
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Joni[/name_f]! [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is cute, I don’t love it though (but what is important is that YOU love it!). Here are some ideas:
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_u]Harbor[/name_u]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
I think my favorite right now is [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]!
Any more ideas or feedback on [name_f]Joni[/name_f]?
