What are your thoughts on this spelling? I realize it is the primarily male spelling, but I live in the US and [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is just not a male name here no matter how it’s spelled. So would Joscelin be ok to use for a girl?
i really prefer [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] only because I know a lot of Jocelyns
It’s okay…I much prefer [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] but if you are really keen on the name, [name_f]Jocelin[/name_f] is fine. It just looks a little too much like a medical drug for me though.
I like it. Honestly I had no idea Joscelin was a spelling but I googled it and am quite surprised.
It is a familiar enough name and boys names on girls seems to be a thing so why not?

They are both legitimate spellings and agreed, I’ve only met girls/women with this name so yes, I think this spelling would be just fine. I doubt you’ll get a bunch of people saying “that’s the masculine way to spell that” and if they do, they’re probably being pretentious. 
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is the more recognized spelling so I think there will be more instances of hearing your child’s name and people writing it this way than the other way. As long as that doesn’t both you, then go for it.
Yeah, it doesn’t bother me at all that a girl named Joscelin would have to always spell out her name. After all, my name is [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f] and I wouldn’t change the spelling simply because people always get it wrong. The Joscelin spelling just looks better to me and my husband likes it better too. Thanks for the opinions!
I have never seen it spelled with an S and a C before. I think you can certainly spell it that way for a girl. I believe all spellings of the name were originally masculine, even with the Y that looks so feminine to most people these days, so I think all spellings should be equally applicable to a girl as well. I’m partial to Josselin with 2 Ss, and the nn [name_u]Joss[/name_u], but I mostly imagine it for a boy.
I think this spelling looks over done with the S and C. The S seems superfluous and it makes me say it more like joss-seh-lin and honestly, I said joss-keh-lin first. I really love the name [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] and I love the spelling [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f].
I had no idea Joscelin/[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] could be a male name, so I don’t think most people would associate a particular spelling with being a masculine form, at least in the US. I think that spelling is perfectly fine, especially if you’ve already decided you don’t mind her having to spell the name out for people sometimes. I think it’s a beautiful name!
I do agree that the spelling is a little too much. It’s a pretty name, but [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is the best spelling.
I’ve always really liked the sound of [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], but the Y just kind of threw me for a loop. To me, the [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] spelling looks like a kre8tiv spelling which I don’t like. I know that’s weird since my own name, [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f], is a creative spelling, but go figure. What can I say? I’m weird. lol I think it may be because so many people these days are obsessed with adding Ys to names that don’t typically have a Y. It irks me. I’d rather my childs name not fall into that trendy category. So when I came across Joscelin as a legitimate and actually older spelling today, I immediately fell in love. And my husband likes it better too, which just never happens.

In medieval times many names were unisex, like [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], but I believe Joscelin was the original spelling. Joscelina is another variant and I quite prefer this and Joscelin to [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] because -lyn endings seem so outdated to me. I also think it would be difficult to find anyone nowadays that thinks of this as a masculine name.

For me, growing up in and never having been out of the US, [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]/Joscelin is a female name. I mean I know that it was originally a male name, but like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_u]Marian[/name_u], it’s all girl here now no matter how it’s spelled because of the sound of it. As I said before, [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] to me looks like a kre8tiv spelling, which I guess technically it could be called that since Joscelin is the original. The Y in [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] throws me and has always kept me from considering [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] as a possible name for a daughter. Joscelin changes all of that though. And, like I said before, my husband likes it better too, which never happens! He tends to be difficult to get on the same page as me, so him liking Joscelin came as a nice surprise.
If it’s just that Y that’s bothering you, why not spell it [name_f]Jocelin[/name_f]? The S in your spelling is just not needed I think and is what makes the name look weird to me.
But my husband and I like the S. I just wrote both out and asked him which he liked best and he chose Joscelin. It’s my favorite too, so I think we’ll stick with that spelling.
