Would love your advice on this one!
Loving the name [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] lately, but my husband likes [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] a bit more.
Our last name is Rueff (rhymes with poof)
I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is a precious middle name, and I like it with both. Open to other suggestions though.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] Rueff or [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] Rueff
I think [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] probably flows better with [name_f]Kate[/name_f] but can’t decide if [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is either really pretty or too frilly. I love how classic and strong [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is.
What do you think? I’ve been thinking about this for weeks, so it would be so helpful to hear other opinions!
I love this name! My personal preference tends to fall on [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is just as nice.
With [name_f]Kate[/name_f], I would agree that [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] has a better flow, as the ending vowel softens up that hard K in a way that -ine ending of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] just doesn’t to my ears.
Out of curiosity, why the preference for the f in place of ph for [name_f]Josefina[/name_f]?
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Nessette! Thank you for your quick reply, and your help.
I’m certainly not opposed to [name_f]Josephina[/name_f]! My husband initially said he liked the spelling Josefina better. I do like the ph though, I go back and forth.
I personally prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], classic and strong, like you said. Sound-wise [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] does flow better with [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. If you are set on [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a middle I would go with [name_f]Josefina[/name_f]. I think it’s a full name, but not over-the-top frilly.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - that would probably become my daughter’s name if it weren’t for DH’s veto.
[name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is okay, but personally something about that spelling would make me assume a Hispanic background, which is fine, but may or may not be accurate. Maybe it’s just me. Aside from that, [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is the stronger and more wearable of the two [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. It’s so delicate and [name_m]French[/name_m] and [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] loses that for me.
Also it’s [name_u]Nikita[/name_u]'s name from the show La Femme [name_u]Nikita[/name_u] and I love the way [name_u]Michael[/name_u] says [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]!
I personally prefer [name_f]Josefina[/name_f], but that is mainly because I in general and in most cases prefer the less traditional option. I also tend to like the look of the F as opposed to the PH in this case.
[name_f]Josefina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is both sweet and sophisticated - I like it.
Are you or your husband Spanish? I ask because [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is the Hispanic spelling and would actually be pronounced HOE-se-fi-na. That’s how I pronounced it when I first read the name and I was honestly a bit surprised that you were comparing the two, since the pronunciations would be so different. If you’re looking for the name to be pronounced [name_m]JOE[/name_m]-se-fi-na, then you should definitely go with the [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] spelling. Spelling it as [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] and pronouncing it with a hard J sound seems inappropriate to me (‘inappropriate’ may not be the right word, but I can’t seem to articulate it properly. Suffice it to say that I would cringe hardcore if I knew someone who did that).
All that being said (and I sincerely apologize if you or your husband are Spanish and are like, "duh, we know), I prefer the [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] spelling. I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is strong yet adorable and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is just about the cutest thing ever.
Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. If you’re not Hispanic, [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is not a good option for you. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is wonderful!
I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - it’s classic, strong and elegant, and a really sweet choice. [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is decent but I don’t love it (weird how one syllable makes the difference), and I prefer the [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] spelling. [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] sure isn’t too frilly though and totally usable.
However, I do think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] flows better with [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] so I really don’t know. Great choice either wat.
Both [name_f]Josephina[/name_f]/[name_f]Josefina[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are very beautiful names, but I think I like the combination [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] more than [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] flows better and sounds a little softer, than the other option. But I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] looks more elegant, classic and pretty. But it’s a very hard choice. Goodluck!
I’m going to go against the majority, and actually say that I prefer [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. As for the pronunciation, it depends on where you are; in [name_f]England[/name_f], you would definitely get a [name_m]JOE[/name_m]-suh-fee-nuh pronunciation.
