Joyce

What do you think of using [name]Joyce[/name] as a middle name for a boy, like [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Joyce[/name]?

I think that if you’re going to use [name]Joyce[/name] for either sex, the middle is definitely the best place for it. You get a thumbs up from me.

I’ve only seen [name]Joyce[/name] as a girl’s name, so if you are going to use it for a boy I think it should be middle name for sure, but bear in mind it is a girl’s name.

Actually, as with [name]Leslie[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Elliott[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]James[/name], and all the rest, [name]Joyce[/name] was originally a man’s name. As a doff to [name]James[/name] [name]Joyce[/name], I think it works as a middle name and [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Joyce[/name] has a very Edwardian ring to it.

It’s a unisex name.

It was in the top 1000 for boys between 1917 and 1946 peaking around the low 600s. Since then it’s only ranked in the top 1000 as a girls name. [name]Clare[/name] actually ranked higher than [name]Joyce[/name] as a boys name. I think most people will see it as a girl’s name, but I am not saying that should deter you from using it, just pointing out how most people will view it.

Honestly, I think you’d be setting a boy up for a lot of teasing with the middle name [name]Joyce[/name]. It hasn’t been used as a boy’s name in over 50 years and I think most people view it as a completely female name. I know a lot of people think the middle name doesn’t matter but growing up, I knew all my friends’ middle names. Full names are printed on attendance sheets, report cards, awards, diplomas, etc., so it’s not like a kid could keep their middle name a secret if they found it embarrassing.

I’m going to homeschool. So, things like attendance sheets and report cards won’t be a issue.

Middle names are so rarely used that I don’t see how it will ever be an issue.
