I am pregnant and due in [name]May[/name], we do not know if we are having a boy or a girl. We’re not settled on a girl’s name yet but I think it would probably end up being [name]Blythe[/name] or [name]Tess[/name] if she’s a she.
Older siblings are [name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], and [name]Olive[/name].
My boys list is longer to start out with than the girls was. I like all these names but not sure that I [name]LOVE[/name] any of them. Different from the girls where I LOVED the five that I started with and have had a hard time crossing any off the list. With the boys I feel like I could cross every single one off and be just fine.
Okay here’s what we have so far (only looking at first names right now, we’ll use a family name in the middle):
[name]Jude[/name] - I love this but read once that a lot of people will hear “Jew” when it’s said out loud.
[name]Van[/name] - I’ve loved this for a long time, it was on the list for Rhett but DH isn’t sold. Also, too much like Max?
[name]Vance[/name] - Maybe he’d go for this longer version? Is it better or worse than the short Van?
[name]West[/name] - DH says it’s not a name, otherwise he likes it.
[name]Heath[/name] - Bad association? Will everyone think of Heath Ledger?
[name]Beck[/name] - Sound too much like Rhett?
[name]Wells[/name]
[name]Ford[/name] - DH says it’s not a name, I love it.
[name]Leif[/name]
[name]Burke[/name]
[name]Boone[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Grey[/name] - This is my favorite but I have a friend with one already
Penn - Too much like Rhett? Too preppy?
Great list! Too bad about [name]Grey[/name]; it works so well. I think [name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], and [name]Olive[/name] do great with [name]Jude[/name] (perfect!), [name]Heath[/name], and [name]Wells[/name], and while [name]Burke[/name] isn’t a fave of mine, I think it’s great with this clan. [name]Van[/name] might work really well, too; I like it, but it makes me think a little of last names that are [name]Van[/name] ___, and if it would seem like he was missing a first name. But [name]Van[/name] fits!
I think [name]Flynn[/name] is nice, but to me it stands out as The Irish Name just as [name]Leif[/name] would seem very Scandinavian compared with his siblings. In my mind, [name]Beck[/name] is tied to the singer, but even moreso to [name]Becky[/name]/[name]Becca[/name]/[name]Rebecca[/name], so it wouldn’t be my pick. I think [name]Ford[/name] makes a great name, but I think it might bring up the car company for others. And I thought [name]West[/name] was a great fit until I realized that [name]West[/name] and [name]Rhett[/name] started to get mixed up when I said them out loud together a few times. Maybe you don’t find it as much of a tongue-twister as I do, though.
I love [name]Heath[/name]!!! It is amazing! So glade you like it and no its been so long since [name]Heath[/name] Ledger passed away which is sad but it won’t be something that would fallow your son.
If you love the name [name]Grey[/name], use it!!! [name]Don[/name]'t be scared to use a name just because you know someone with a child that has the same name. On my Mom’s side of the family, five of the seven aunts used the name [name]Katelyn[/name], all spelled the same way. HAVE NO FEAR!!!
@ellenelle, I think you’re right about [name]West[/name] and I really just keep going back and forth with all the short e sounding names so for now I’ll cut those out. I’m also cutting [name]Flynn[/name] and [name]Leif[/name], they weren’t really favorites anyway.
I love so many of these! [name]Beck[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]West[/name] (I also like [name]North[/name]), [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Boone[/name], and [name]Grey[/name] are my favorites. Too bad about your friend–I think [name]Grey[/name] is fabulous! [name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], [name]Olive[/name], and [name]Grey[/name] are great for siblings, too. Otherwise, I really like [name]Jude[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], and [name]Boone[/name] the best. [name]West[/name] is kind of cool–maybe he would go for [name]Westley[/name] or [name]Weston[/name] nn [name]West[/name] instead of just [name]West[/name]?
Good luck!
ETA: [name]Just[/name] saw your updated post… From your updated list [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Boone[/name] are definitely my favorites! I think [name]Jude[/name] fits a bit better but I like that you have less concerns about [name]Boone[/name], so maybe that’s a better pick? I think either one is great with [name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], and [name]Olive[/name].
Lots of love for [name]Jude[/name]… I love it too. Does anyone else feel the way that one person did? [name]Will[/name] people hear Jew? And is there a nn for it? Definitely can’t call him [name]Judy[/name] when he’s little when people tend to add ee to the end of names on little people… [name]Max[/name] even gets [name]Maxy[/name] every once in a while which I swore he’d never be called when we named him, it doesn’t bother me as much anymore.
@ashthedreamer, We have good friends (like we see and talk to them a lot friends) with both [name]Weston[/name] and [name]Wesley[/name] so those longer forms are out. I tend to like the shorter nn sounding names better anyway. And the reason I have less concerns about [name]Boone[/name] is probably because I’m kind of luke warm to it and having thought as much about it. Definitely don’t love it as much as some of the others.
[name]Jude[/name] -This is a good strong name and is trendy now but I think that it will become less popular in the future.
[name]Van[/name] - I think that the name your husband may like more is [name]Vaughn[/name], it is very close to [name]Van[/name] looks more complete and is imo a fantastic name. I know a guy with this name and he has the ultimate tough guy exterior but is one of the kindest people you could meet.
[name]Vance[/name] - I like [name]Van[/name] a lot more
[name]West[/name] - It is a noun and is a good nn for [name]Weston[/name]
[name]Heath[/name] - [name]Heath[/name] is a good name and what is wrong with associating it with [name]Heath[/name] Ledger? The only negative imo is that people will get it confused with [name]Keith[/name].
[name]Beck[/name] - Sound too much like [name]Rhett[/name]? Afraid so.
[name]Wells[/name] He will of course get the nn of [name]Wells[/name] [name]Fargo[/name]. What about [name]Wilson[/name] nn of [name]Will[/name]?
[name]Ford[/name] I like this one too
[name]Leif[/name] Nice but confusing for people to work out how to say if not Scandinavian
[name]Burke[/name] Another good manly name.
[name]Boone[/name]NMS
[name]Flynn[/name]Like a lot
[name]Grey[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t like because grey is such a drab colour and could be depressing so no I wouldn’t use it.
[name]Penn[/name] - Too much like [name]Rhett[/name]? NMS
[name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name],[name]Olive[/name] and [name]Vaughn[/name]
[name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name],[name]Olive[/name] and [name]Ford[/name]
[name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name],[name]Olive[/name] and [name]Burke[/name]
[name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Wade[/name]
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Wells[/name] and thinks he works stunningly with [name]Max[/name], [name]Rhett[/name] and [name]Olive[/name]. My other suggestion for you would be [name]Hayes[/name].
