Julian or Julien?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering which spelling is preferrable. [name_f]Do[/name_f] they have different meanings?

I love [name_m]Julien[/name_m]. But maybe just because I prefer [name_m]French[/name_m] to English…
I don’t believe they have different meanings but I’m not sure!

[name_m]Julian[/name_m] just looks more “proper” to me. So Id go with that

Honestly love both. They’re the same name and thus the same meaning as far as I know. It just depends on whether you want a more English or [name_m]French[/name_m] feel. [name_m]Julien[/name_m] is international and dashing, while [name_m]Julian[/name_m] is handsome and classic.

Unless you’re [name_m]French[/name_m] (or in a [name_m]French[/name_m] speaking region) I would go with [name_m]Julian[/name_m].

[name_f]Imagine[/name_f] explaining the spelling over and over again for such a well established name. It would become tedious very quickly!

I prefer [name_m]Julien[/name_m] - maybe because I first starting liking the name after watching a youtuber who uses that spelling. [name_m]Julian[/name_m] feels more familiar though and may cause less annoying misspellings

They mean the same thing, [name_m]Julien[/name_m] is the [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling. I think you should use the one that would make more sense if your area or you’ll be forever correcting the spelling.

[name_m]Julien[/name_m]! Very handsome.

[name_m]Julian[/name_m] looks much more feminine to me and I’m aware of what it says but I always say [name_u]Juli[/name_u]-anne in my head.

I am [name_m]French[/name_m], so I have bias, but these spellings both seem equally useable. At my children’s public school, there are so many interesting name variations (traditional Anglo names, Anglo names with different spellings, Russian, Chinese, and Latino names) that every kid is asked to spell their name and wear a name tag. We get a list of the kids names before major holidays in case cards are going to be brought to school. So I don’t see the difficulty in [name_m]Julien[/name_m] spelled with an ‘e’.

I’m in the US

I’m used to seeing [name_m]Julian[/name_m]

Personally, I definitely would choose [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. Its more classic and [name_m]Julien[/name_m] is more feminine to me as I had a friend in high school named [name_f]Julienne[/name_f]

I always think [name_m]Julian[/name_m] sounds like [name_u]Julie[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f], so I’d pick [name_m]Julien[/name_m].
What about [name_m]Julius[/name_m]? It’s definitely masculine.

I love the name! I prefer [name_m]Julian[/name_m] and also like [name_m]Julius[/name_m].

More partial to [name_m]Julien[/name_m]. I feel an E is slightly more masculine.
