Juliana vs. Julianna?

Does anyone else think [name]Julianna[/name] would be pn a-nuh (a as an cat) and [name]Juliana[/name] would be pn ah-nuh (ah as in cot)? [name]Do[/name] you think they are pn’d the same?

Yes to the different pronunciations. I’d think people would sometimes pronounce [name]Juliana[/name] as -anna too though, maybe because aw-nuh sounding endings aren’t very common here. I prefer [name]Juliana[/name] because it is less clunky looking, and I’d probably just say it as -anna because I like that sound better haha.

I do! I love [name]Juliana[/name] but [name]Julianna[/name] seems much clunkier to me. It’s the same way for all -ana/-anna endings ([name]Ariana[/name] as opposed to [name]Arianna[/name], [name]Liliana[/name] as opposed to [name]Lilianna[/name], [name]Viviana[/name] as opposed to [name]Vivianna[/name], etc.)–with the exception of [name]Giovanna[/name], which I’ve heard is -ah-nah regardless. I can’t seem to understand how [name]Arianna[/name] equals “are-ee-ah-nah” to some, but maybe that’s just me.

I pronounce them like you.

I much prefer [name]Juliana[/name]. [name]Julianna[/name] seems like a combination of [name]Julia[/name]/[name]Julie[/name] and [name]Anna[/name] although I know it’s not, actually. I think that explains how I pronounce [name]Julianna[/name].

I personally say both as [name]Juliana[/name], with the ending being like [name]Ana[/name]. However, it’s just as acceptable to say [name]Julianna[/name] with the ending like [name]Anna[/name], too.

Really, you can’t go wrong with any of the combinations.

I prefer the ana endings over anna.

[name]Juliana[/name] is better.

I used to know a little [name]Juliana[/name], and her name was pronounced ‘[name]Jewel[/name]-Ee-Aw-[name]Nuh[/name]’. I think [name]Julianna[/name] could be pronounced the same way, sure, just as some people named [name]Anna[/name] pronounce their name ‘[name]Ah[/name]-nah’ ([name]Anna[/name] Faris, the actress, for example). Personally, I would pronounce [name]Julianna[/name] as ‘[name]Jewel[/name]-Ee-[name]Ann[/name]-Uh’. I like [name]Juliana[/name] much better. It IS less clunky looking and does not look much like a compound name they way [name]Julianna[/name] does to me.

I think the pronunciation could be either way with both. The spelling has no impact on the value of the “a”. Make it whatever you want. If you like one certain sound and one certain spelling then put them together.

As a [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] (spelled that way because it’s an old family name), my mother pronounces it jewel-ya-[name_m]AH[/name_m]-nah, but that may be because of her very thick southern accent. So that is another pronunciation possibility!

[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] is best! I like the way it looks and sounds more. Very cute
