I prefer [name]Juliet[/name], but I just recently saw [name]Juliette[/name] too. I just think the “ette” takes away from the name. It is probably one of the few three syllable girls names that you’ll find that isn’t a lengthy name to spell- which I think adds to it’s appeal! So, I wouldn’t add length to the spelling if it doesn’t change the pronunciation.
I agree. I tend to feel like [name]Juliette[/name] looks either like she’s french (which she isn’t), or looks more…frilly or something? My other daughter is gorgeous, but tall and not frilly.
I also realize [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] are kind of “matchy”. I can’t help it though…my two favorite names for girls besides [name]Scarlett[/name] are [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]. I guess [name]Juliet[/name] is the lesser of two evils. lol I’d like to know though if you think it sounds horrible. I don’t want to make a mistake for this baby.
I prefer [name]Juliet[/name] because it accomplishes the same thing without extra letters, which I tend to see as clutter. Also, yes, the French thing. Maybe with a French surname I’d give [name]Juliette[/name] a chance. In another thread, a poster also made a point for the emphasis being on the “ette”–Jul-ee-ette’–whereas with [name]Juliet[/name], it would be pronounced Jul’-ee-it. But commenters were not in consensus on this point.
I think [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] are OK together. The problem would be if you ever had a third daughter, you’d be looking at [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Harriet[/name] and it would become too much. My preference for you would be to find a name you like with a different ending than et.
First of all, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]!! Beautiful
I’ve always preferred [name]Juliet[/name] over [name]Juliette[/name] because [name]Juliette[/name] reminds me of [name]Gillette[/name] (shave gel company). Also, [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Juliette[/name] to me have the same pronunciation (since a previous poster mentioned pronunciation).
In theory, I prefer [name]Juliette[/name]. I love usually prefer the -ette/-elle/-belle endings as opposed to the -et/-el/-bel endings ([name]Lisette[/name], [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Arabelle[/name], [name]Arielle[/name], etc.), and I [name]LOVE[/name] that [name]Juliette[/name] is the French variant of [name]Juliet[/name]. But even though I always seem to say that [name]Juliette[/name] is my favorite, when I see it paired up, I almost invariably prefer the [name]Juliet[/name] spelling. It’s simpler. The “te” ending just seems excessive, unnecessary. [name]Both[/name] are lovely, but I think I’d opt for just [name]Juliet[/name], personally.
I like the minimalist look of ‘[name]Juliet[/name]’.
I prefer [name]Juliet[/name]. Only way I’d use [name]Juliette[/name] is if I were using another French name as welle. Typo, but that’s what I mean. “Shoppe.”
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Juliette[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
etc.
I really like both of them… [name]Juliet[/name] seems simpler, but I like the frill of [name]Juliette[/name]
I honestly couldn’t pick. [name]Juliet[/name] is simple and gorgeous, but [name]Juliette[/name] is frilly and princess-y. I love both!
I like both- but [name]Juliette[/name] has more nn options, and I think it is more unique and beautiful. A [name]Juliet[/name] couldn’t be an [name]Etta[/name], but a [name]Juliette[/name] could. And [name]Jet[/name] (love that nickname!) is still an option.
I prefer the simplicity of [name]Juliet[/name] to [name]Juliette[/name]. [name]Juliet[/name] is sweet and to the point, while [name]Juliette[/name] is frilly and long (while reading one of the posts I found myself oddly stunned at how long it seemed.) I think that [name]Juliet[/name] is great.
I really appreciate all of the replies! My gut has been [name]Juliet[/name] and I think knowing my daughter will most likely be a tomboy like my other daughter and taller I’m thinking that’s still the best choice. I think for me when in doubt the traditional spelling of the name is probably a safe choice. I don’t see myself regretting that choice, where on the other hand I could see myself regretting the other spelling in the future. Plus we also have a 3-syllable last name so the look of the simpler [name]Juliet[/name] is probably better. Someone had commented also about [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] as siblings being ok but being stuck with the theme if we had more girls, but this is our last child so that’s not an issue. As long as they sound ok together I’m good with it. I have two stepchildren that have matchy sounding names, “[name]Allie[/name] and [name]Andy[/name]” ([name]Allison[/name] and [name]Andrew[/name] but they don’t go by this), so I guess all together it will sound a bit like two pairs: [name]Allie[/name], [name]Andy[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], and [name]Juliet[/name]. Bah, please tell me I’m not crazy! lol
If you want to put the emphasis on the first syllable, definitely [name]Juliet[/name]. [name]Juliette[/name] has a different pronunciation and it bothers me when people just ignore that.
Yes that makes sense.
