A lot of you would know my love of [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] as a nickname.
However, amongst my worries that [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] could be a little dated, I began looking for alternatives that could technically also have the nickname [name_f]Jill[/name_f].
There, I thought of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. [name_f]Jill[/name_f] originated as a nickname for the Jul- names, and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] feels like a natural derivation for [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], personally (me being a fan of the [name_f]Jill[/name_f] nickname could influence this, but itās the first thing I think of for [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], moreso than [name_u]Jules[/name_u] / Julie).
It probably works better with certain accents but I donāt see why not. If, as you say, [name_f]Jill[/name_f] originated as a nickname for Jul- names then reclaim it!
I think it works regardless of any history, really. Itās definitely not the first nickname I think of for [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] (primarily [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_u]Julie[/name_u], [name_f]Juju[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Lettie[/name_f], and [name_u]Jett[/name_u], but maybe thenā¦), but I do think it is sensible!
Iām not really getting [name_f]Jill[/name_f] from [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] but there are plenty of nicknames that donāt directly correlate (Peggy from Margaret).
But I think [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is lovely on its own and due for a revival!
I really like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] āJulesā personally and it feels the most intuitive. I can totally see [name_f]Jill[/name_f] working as well, but my reaction would be āoh! Cool! Okay!ā rather than it seeming totally obvious, if that makes sense. Honestly if you love [name_f]Jill[/name_f] Iād just roll with [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], itās not so clunky!
thank you! Iām glad to be seeing so many receptive comments to juliet ājillā - I think itās a really sweet name and nickname.
irl, iāve been getting a lot of negativity about jillian, so thatās whatās made me consider other avenues
