I am currently ~4 months pregnant, and we are considering [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] if it’s a girl. I have loved this name for several years, partially because of the sound and romantic feel of it (though [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] isn’t my ideal literary hero for a daughter’s name.) My concerns are that:
a) the spelling might make it look/feel too unique (usually prefer straightforward spellings,) and
b) that it is becoming a bit popular, and possibly trendy?
I like this spelling because my mom’s name is [name_f]Colette[/name_f], and it seems like a nice way to honor her and her [name_m]French[/name_m] roots.
I have a 9 year-old stepdaughter named [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], and an almost 2 year-old named [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
For reference, we also currently like the names [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
Definitely open to opinions and suggestions Thank you!
[name_u]Unique[/name_u]? Definitely not. It’s a legitimate variant that’s common enough. I have [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] (this spelling) on my list too, so maybe I’m biased. It’s such a lovely name.
Nope, I don’t think so.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] sound great together. I also love [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] from your list.
A) I don’t think there is anything wrong with the spelling. It’s just moreso what appeals to you more…but both [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] are legitimate.
B) I really don’t think it is/will. I’ve talked with some people about it and they get caught up in the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] connection, which turns them off of the name, oddly enough. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think it ever really caught on in mass popularity, like [name_f]Linda[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f] did.
I really do like [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]! We are actually considering it as a mn for a possible [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] anyhow, I think it works perfectly with your other children’s names!
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is trendy, but it’s a lovely name. I think you should use your preferred spelling. As previous posters have mentioned, [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is a legitimate spelling of the name. Nothing to worry about!
a) the spelling might make it look/feel too unique (usually prefer straightforward spellings,)
The two spellings ([name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]) are really close in popularity- [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is #240 and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is actually slightly more popular at #226. So [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] has become the dominant spelling, but just barely.
b) that it is becoming a bit popular, and possibly trendy?
Both spellings are on the rise (though [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] seems to be leveling off a bit) so you will almost certainly meet other [name_f]Juliet/name_fs. My name ranked around #200 my year of birth, and it was very rare for me to encounter another person with the same name, so a rank around that number isn’t actually super common in life. But again, you’ve got two spellings, so that disguises [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]'s actual popularity.
I guess what I’m saying in a roundabout way is that [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is fairly common, not outrageously popular, but with the potential to become so. You have to make the decision about how unique you want the name you choose to be. I would be fine with [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]'s rank, but it’s not my baby
