July?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
What do you all think of [name_f]July[/name_f]?
I think (although I might be wrong) that it used to be used as a boys name, but to me it sounds totally femenine (just like [name_u]August[/name_u] (no hate please :P))
I think it would make a nice middle for someone born in [name_f]July[/name_f] (like me!) alone with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] ([name_f]July[/name_f] birthstone)
What do you think?
Thanks,
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] xx

It actually seems quite masculine to me, even though it ends in a y.

So, I have been sitting here trying to decide if it is feminine or masculine…and I have come to the conclusion that I just can’t see it on either gender. Hm…

I don’t like it as a name on it’s own in the first spot. As a middle, though, I think it works just as well as [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_u]January[/name_u] which I’ve seen get lots of love on here. I think it could be good for either gender in the middle. And even though I don’t like it in the first name spot, it could be [name_u]Julie[/name_u] for a girl and [name_u]Jules[/name_u] for a boys nn.

I think it would make a neat nickname for something like [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] or other Jul- names. If you want, I can suggest some.

It’s a month and should stay that way. I don’t like to use months as names. They seem tacky and there are better options. The only name that I might actually use is [name_u]August [/name_u] because its a short form of a legit name. Not just a month. What about [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_u]Julie[/name_u], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_m]Julius[/name_m], [name_m]Jolyon[/name_m]?

Month names are tacky? lol You’re entitled to you opinion.

I actually really like it as a middle name. I’m having a hard time picturing it as a first. And I like [name_u]August[/name_u] on a girl too.

I like it and think it is substantial on its own…

However I also like dantea’s suggestion of it as a nn for [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

I used to love [name_f]July[/name_f] for a girl! I named one of the characters in a book I started once [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] nn [name_u]Juli[/name_u] (pronounced like [name_f]July[/name_f], not [name_u]Julie[/name_u]). I still think it’s super fun. I also love the idea of [name_f]Juillet[/name_f] as opposed to [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] for a girl–sounds so much cooler than [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], imo, too (zhwee-yay). It’s the [name_m]French[/name_m] word for [name_f]July[/name_f], which I think is super fun, because some people wouldn’t get that it’s a [name_m]French[/name_m] month name. Total GP, though, because it would never be taken seriously in [name_f]France[/name_f]!

I remember reading a book/story when I was younger with a girl named [name_f]July[/name_f]. I have always thought it was wonderful.

I always think of the minor character in [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. In the book it mentions that this orphan named [name_f]July[/name_f] was dropped off with a poorly spelled note asking to “tayke car of owr baybie [name_f]July[/name_f]” [name_f]Annie[/name_f] goes on to tell us that they probably meant [name_u]Julie[/name_u], but that [name_f]July[/name_f] would tell anyone who would listen that she was born on the 4th of [name_f]July[/name_f]. And if we had celebrated birthdays in the orphanage, by god, that’s when we’d have celebrated it. So. That’s what I would always think of.

Tacky might not have been the best choice of word, but all in all it’s not a very good ‘name’. It is not even a legitimate first name. Month names without a significant history of being used as a given name just seem plain ridiculous to me. [name_u]January[/name_u] might be the name of a peson, but it isn’t a legit name and doesn’t have the history that [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u] have. [name_f]July[/name_f] might sound pretty to someone, but it’s not exactly a given name. If you like it use it, but I personally wouldn’t. Most people will likely ask “Like the month?” constantly or confuse it with [name_u]Julie[/name_u] because of how common of a name [name_u]Julie[/name_u] is.
