So, our little girl is going to either be [name]Juna[/name] or [name]Juniper[/name]. We’re definitely waiting to see her before making the final decision, but I’d really like to hear some berry thoughts. I love both: [name]Juna[/name] feels sophisticated, sleek and versatile; [name]Juniper[/name] feels more complete, I love it’s quirkiness and it has great associations for us. What to do!!
(P.S. Dh has said that he can’t get on board with just [name]June[/name], which is a great shame, but anyway we’ll just have to move on from that!)
I like [name]Juniper[/name], definitely! It’s so pretty, and fresh, and lovely. I think you could probably get the nickname [name]Juna[/name] from it, as well. To my ear [name]Juna[/name] sounds very similar to “junior” pronounced in a non-rhotic accent in a hurry. [name]Junia[/name] actually sounds closer, but it’s still close enough for me to vastly prefer [name]Juniper[/name]! It’s one of my favourite names.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Juna[/name] and [name]Junia[/name]. [name]Juniper[/name] is fun, but feels a bit trendy. [name]Juna[/name] does seem more grown up and classic.
I vote [name]Juniper[/name]. [name]Juna[/name] feels like an attempt to gussy up [name]June[/name]. You can (and probably will) call her [name]Junie[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Junia[/name], Niper, etc.
I don’t know why, but when I read [name]Juna[/name] I want to pronounce it like you-na. Whether you pronounce it you-na or not, I like it better than [name]Juniper[/name].
Definitely go with [name]Juniper[/name].
[name]Juna[/name] is NMS and comes off as an attempt to be youneek and kre8tif, [name]IMO[/name]. What about [name]Junia[/name]? I’d much prefer that over [name]Juna[/name].
[name]Juna[/name]. It’s more feminine without being frilly, and I don’t like the ‘per’ ending in [name]Juniper[/name]. It’s a little rough. [name]Juniper[/name] can also be a little too cute when [name]Juna[/name] is dignified.
Wow, thanks everyone- interesting that it seems to be almost a 50-50 split. We’ve considered [name]Junia[/name] but for some reason it sounds odd when I say it with my accent and our surname ends in O so [name]Juno[/name] isn’t quite right. At the moment I think we are leaning toward [name]Juniper[/name] because, even though it’s unusual, it seems to be a more established name. In fact, when I really think about it, I’ve always wanted to use [name]Juniper[/name] but never thought I’d be brave enough but I bet I’d regret it if I didn’t! Now that Dh is completely on board with [name]Juniper[/name], it seems a really plausible possibility. I still love [name]Juna[/name] though so we’ll see, but again my accent does make it sound a bit like Tuna sometimes!! Haha! Anyway, we really appreciate all your replies and would love any more if anyone else comes across this thread.
