We are expexting our fourth baby (3rd son) via adoption this [name_u]December[/name_u]. We love the name Junipero (like Blessed Father Junipero, who’s being canonized this month.) I know it’s a spanish name and I know the correct way to pronounce it, but my question is, if you saw the name, how would you pronounce it? And, would you consider Americanizing the pronunciation? We have a foreign name theme going on in all of our kids names anyways, so im not really worried about scarring him for life or anything with a unique name. And, thoughts on nickname Pip and mn Arthur?
Our others are [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] (mn after dad), Miette [name_f]Faye[/name_f] (mn after grandma), and [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] (mn christmasy).
My husband isn’t sold on [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] for a middle name, anyone have any other suggestions? Thank you!
Junipero is certainly interesting! [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is really catching on as a girls’ name, so it seems timely. If I knew it was a Spanish name, I’d probably say it hoo-nee-pair-oh, but my first instinct was to say something along the lines of june-ih-PAIR-oh, sort of a mix between the Spanish pronunciation and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]-o? [name_m]Pip[/name_m] is a cute nn, and [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], Miette, [name_m]Errol[/name_m], and Junipero are really great together.
Like Junipero [name_f]Serra[/name_f]!! He did a lot of cool stuff in [name_u]California[/name_u], and if you ever make it to San [name_m]Diego[/name_m], there’s a cool museum about him, too. [name_m]Pip[/name_m] is a great nickname. I think most Americans would pronounce it like [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]-o…
Unsure - I guess if you and/or the child are Hispanic, it definitely works. But if not, I’d just go with [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] (which is fairly unusual in any case). Junipero seems far more exotic than [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], [name_f]Mietta[/name_f] and [name_m]Errol[/name_m] and therefore doesn’t fit.
I automatically said joo-nee-PAIR-oh, however, when reading it’s Spanish (and actually spelled [name_m]Jun[/name_m]ípero), I adjusted to hoo-NEE-peh-roh (the emphasis would be on the accent, right…?) I quite like the name, with either pronunciation - I adore [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and love names ending in -o, so Junipero’s great. I really like the nickname of [name_m]Pip[/name_m], but I’m not liking [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] as middle as he and Junipero are such different styles. Any other family names that mesh well with Junipero?
