Just starting out

[name]Hi[/name] all,

I just stumbled across this website and I already love it! I’m pregnant with our second child but we have decided to keep the gender a surprise. We have a daughter named [name]Olivia[/name], she is three. Can we get your opinions on our name lists? Like I said, we’re just starting out so the list might be a bit extensive

Girls list-
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Kate[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]

Boys list-
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
Luke
We are open to any and all suggestions.
Thank you so much for your opinions and advice,
[name]Annie[/name] and [name]John[/name].

Your list really isn’t that extensive for a [name]Berry[/name] list. It seems to me that you like fairly popular yet not trendy names. but your inclusion of [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] suggests you might be willing to look at some things outside of what could be a comfort zone.

Girls:
[name]Violet[/name] - I love [name]Violet[/name] and think it’s a really nice pairing with [name]Olivia[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are nature related but they aren’t too connected for it to be too obvious. I really like sib-sets that have a link of sorts so I think this is great. Also they are fairly similar in popularity level and that can be a plus.

[name]Emma[/name] - I like that both [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] are used in famous English Literature (12th [name]Night[/name] and [name]Emma[/name]) which is a really subtle but fun connection especially if you and your husband are avid readers -> or you hope your girls will be. Again both are similar in popularity.

[name]Elise[/name] - I love [name]Elise[/name], it feels a bit short next to the 4 syllable [name]Olivia[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Elisa[/name] or [name]Alisa[/name]? The extra -a almost ads a syllable and [name]Elise[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] sound nice together.

[name]Chloe[/name], [name]Natalie[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] are nms.

Boys list-
[name]Jonah[/name] - I love this name. I feel like it’s underused. I don’t think I’ve ever meet a [name]Jonah[/name] (though plenty of [name]Jones[/name]’, [name]John[/name], ect.) It also goes nicely with [name]Olivia[/name] which I like. I also think that while it isn’t quite as popular as [name]Olivia[/name] it is definitely a well known name and easily recognizable. I also like that both names have o’s and a’s.

[name]Asher[/name] - I like [name]Asher[/name] as a name but I don’t think it’s as nice with [name]Olivia[/name]. If you don’t care about sib-set flow (and some don’t) I think this is a really great option.

[name]Noah[/name] - [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] are great together. I like that both names have o’s and a’s.

[name]Callum[/name] and [name]Seth[/name] are nms.

Other names to consider my include: [name]Henry[/name], [name]Abel[/name], [name]Zachary[/name], [name]Ian[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Iris[/name], and [name]Phoebe[/name].

[name]Violet[/name]- Beautiful, fragrant, and a bit sassy. This is a good one.
[name]Chloe[/name]- My cat is [name]Chloe[/name], and I sometimes regret giving her such a popular name. But it’s cheerful and elegant.
[name]Natalie[/name]- I much prefer [name]Nathalie[/name]. I like this name, though it feels somehow… vulnerable to me.
[name]Emma[/name]- Well, obviously I’m biased. [name]Love[/name] being an [name]Emma[/name]. A strong, comfortable name to have, with a ladylike quality that’s fun to push against. I have a longer, more graceful [name]Em[/name] name that I use once in a while, but [name]Emma[/name] (my nick) is the main name. I like having two options, especially since [name]Emma[/name] has gotten so popular.
[name]Kate[/name]- Classic. You can’t go wrong with [name]Kate[/name]. I might want to use a somewhat frilly middle name to offset [name]Kate[/name]'s simplicity.
[name]Elise[/name]- This seems like a filler middle name to me. I find it kind of cold and stark.

[name]Jonah[/name]- Biblical, rugged, very much a “dude” name. Not my favorite, but I see the appeal. I like [name]Joshua[/name], which is admittedly overused and a bit dated.
[name]Callum[/name]- There are other Celtic names I prefer. This one sounds a bit like “Golem” to me. Similar sounds: [name]Cael[/name], [name]Caedmon[/name], [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Calloway[/name].
[name]Seth[/name]- I know a lovely person by this name, so I like [name]Seth[/name]. I think the name has a peaceful, good-natured sound, like [name]Ben[/name] or [name]Ernest[/name].
[name]Asher[/name]- A bit of a trendy yuppie name, [name]IMO[/name]. I know it’s Biblical, but it’s one of those names… like [name]Bowen[/name]. I prefer [name]Archer[/name], which allows for the nn [name]Arch[/name] or [name]Archie[/name]. Or [name]Abram[/name].
[name]Noah[/name]- Gentle, simple, grounded. I think it wants an interesting middle name to take it up a notch, but it’s handsome.
[name]Luke[/name]- Falls into the same category as [name]Noah[/name] for me. [name]Lovely[/name] meaning. I like [name]Lucas[/name] too. And the nn [name]Lucky[/name] is pretty fun.

[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Violet[/name] is a standout for me. [name]Emma[/name] would be my next choice.

[name]Luke[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] are my favorites on your boys list.

[name]Violet[/name]: I really like this name and I think it goes really well with [name]Olivia[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are sweet and feminine.
[name]Chloe[/name]: I like this name to. It has a lot of spunk.
[name]Natalie[/name]: This name was very popular while I was growing up and seems very common and plain to me.
[name]Emma[/name]: I used to love this name before it became super popular. It lost some of its appeal to me, but over all it is still a very sweet name.
[name]Kate[/name]: I love [name]Kate[/name]. I do prefer [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] as the nickname though. I think [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] sound very elegant together.
[name]Elise[/name]: I am surprised that Nameberry mentions this is name is dated. It always sounded distinct enough for me not to lump it in with all the [name]Alyssa[/name]/[name]Lisa[/name] names. I think it is a very nice name. It sounds feminine without being cutesy. Uncommon, which I like.

[name]Jonah[/name]: I can’t get into this name at all. Too biblical and old sounding for me. Also reminds me of [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Hill[/name].
[name]Callum[/name]: Not my favorite Scottish name. I feel like there are better ones out there.
[name]Seth[/name]: I have always love the name [name]Seth[/name]. I love its link to Egyptian mythology and darkness behind it.
[name]Asher[/name]: Not my style. I usually prefer very masculine sounding names on a boy/man. [name]Asher[/name] is just too soft and pretty for me.
[name]Noah[/name]: This is a good name. Handsome, popular and well liked.
[name]Luke[/name]: I like it, but not as much as [name]Noah[/name] or [name]Seth[/name].

Other names that might suit your taste: Arthur, Benjamin, Cameron, Finlay, Evan, Maisie, Grace, Flora, Vivian, Isla, Eliza.

[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Chloe[/name] make a cute sibset and I love [name]Jonah[/name] for a boy.

Girls list-

[name]Violet[/name] - I like the sound of [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] together a lot. I think they’d make a pair of very sweet girls! If you like names with V, I think [name]Genevieve[/name] also sounds nice with [name]Olivia[/name].
[name]Chloe[/name] - not really a fan of this one. I’d prefer something like [name]Phoebe[/name], which is similar in origin and is heard of but not used quite as often as [name]Chloe[/name].
[name]Natalie[/name] - I like [name]Natalie[/name] a lot, mainly because that’s the name of one of my favorite teachers. I think [name]Natalie[/name] works fine with [name]Olivia[/name], but it’s probably not my favorite sibling combination. Maybe the EE sound just runs together too much for me?
[name]Emma[/name] - is so common now that’s it’s a little boring to me. But I still think it’s a perfectly nice name.
[name]Kate[/name] - I like [name]Kate[/name] a lot! But I like the syllable flow of [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]/[name]Phoebe[/name]/[name]Genevieve[/name] better
[name]Elise[/name] - I don’t love it with [name]Olivia[/name] - its 1 syllable just doesn’t seem to flow with [name]Olivia[/name]'s 4 syllables and that makes it sound flat to me.

Boys list-
[name]Jonah[/name] - not really a fan
[name]Callum[/name] - I think this one sounds nice with [name]Olivia[/name]. [name]Callum[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] has a nice ring to it.
[name]Seth[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Seth[/name], but as a 1 syllable name I think it sounds a little flat next to 4 syllable [name]Olivia[/name].
[name]Asher[/name] - I think this one sounds great with [name]Olivia[/name]!
[name]Noah[/name] - not a fan.
[name]Luke[/name] - would probably get lost in a sea of [name]Lucas[/name]’ these days. Also, I don’t like the 1 syllable / 4 syllable dynamic between [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Luke[/name].

In sum, I like:

[name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Asher[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Callum[/name]

best from your list.

I’d suggest:

[name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name]

[name]Do[/name] you have a nickname for [name]Olivia[/name]? ([name]Liv[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Livia[/name]) This would help in deciding what sounds the best, since nicknames are usually said more than given names. [name]Just[/name] a thought…

[name]Violet[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it! I feel like it’s getting popular here in the States, but super cute. I know a [name]Violet[/name] who goes by [name]Vi[/name].
Chole- This was my cat’s name. Can’t get over that… what about [name]Daphne[/name] or [name]Darby[/name]?
[name]Natalie[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] this name! I prefer the nickname [name]Talie[/name] instead of [name]Nat[/name], but either way great name!
[name]Emma[/name]- too common, not my favorite from your list.
[name]Kate[/name]- As a [name]Kathryn[/name] myself, I love having the option to go by [name]Kate[/name], [name]Katie[/name] or [name]Kathryn[/name]. If you choose [name]Kate[/name], I would use [name]Kathryn[/name] and just tell people she goes by [name]Kate[/name].
[name]Elise[/name]- I like it better as a middle name. [name]Elisa[/name] seems so much prettier to me.

[name]Jonah[/name]- don’t like it. (I picture a whiny kid.)
[name]Callum[/name]- My favorite from your boy list. I love the nickname [name]Cal[/name] too!
[name]Seth[/name]- never liked it
[name]Asher[/name]- cute
[name]Noah[/name]- not a fan.
[name]Luke[/name]- my 2nd favorite from your boy list. Classic name.

I Like from your list:

[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Callum[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Luke[/name]

I’ll suggest:

[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Darby[/name] (Could work for boy or girl, but I think I like a girl better!)
[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Reed[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] & [name]Conner[/name]

After mulling it over for a little bit longer, I’d like to suggest [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] as sisters for [name]Olivia[/name]. I think either of them would make a charming pair with [name]Olivia[/name].
