Kabalarian Philosophy - anyone believe it? ''mind is created by a name''?

I’ve recently been looking into Kabalarian [name_m]Philosophy[/name_m], the idea that individual personalities are intensely shaped by names, due to the nature of language and maths. (I’m guessing this subject has been broached on NB before, so forgive me).

I might have dismissed it completely, but I did get an analysis done of my name and it seemed scarily accurate (I’m always aware of the tenancy to agree with 100% of personality analyses but even with the Forer affect/personal validation fallacy in mind, it seemed precise). I also did the quick-test thing of names of friends, family etc. and they all seemed pretty faultless too. This is the link to the analysis thing - www.kabalarians.com

That being said - I do see some huge flaws in the theory (this is the basic explanation video - Meanings of Names - Kabalarian Philosophy - Numerology at FreeNameReport.com - YouTube). I would have probably still been on board, in principal, if it wasn’t for the realisation that they offer a service to find a ‘‘balanced name’’ for you, charging $125!

Anyone done much research into it? Anyone truly believe in it?

I do believe in it to a certain extent. I mean, a baby named [name_u]Rebel[/name_u] would most likely behave differently than a baby named [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_u]Peace[/name_u] or something, yes?

I had my name analyzed too, and I’d say it was about 80% accurate.

Well, mine was eerily accurate, however, I am not sold on it, especially when I know people with the same name who have drastically different personalities. I feel like your name may have some influence on your personality but not through a numeric system, due to other people’s perseptions of your name and how they treat you, or strength/meaning you may find from your name such as wanting to live up to your namesake.

I think when faced with things like this we tend to see what we want to depending on what we believe. Mine told me I’m prone to get accidents to my head. I never have had head trauma.

I analyzed my name too and I’d say the results were about 80% accurate.

The first half of my name analysis was so true…until I really thought about who I am as a person and who others perceive me as. I agree with vblanch. Names can have an impact, but definitely don’t effect your entire personality and demeanor.

Mine was about 75% accurate, but when I watched the video, I got confused, and sort of gave up trying to follow it, so, I cant really say that I buy any of it :stuck_out_tongue:

Mine was a hit and miss. Some things I could see reflected me, others were nothing like me at all.

Mine was rather accurate if I combined the attributes of my birth and legal name. Well, more so for my legal name than my birth name. Strange that.

I agree. Mine was fairly accurate also.

I do believe what you call a person shapes them, along with environment. I don’t, however, believe that each name has a definite personality and that you become that personality.

The description was totally wrong about me and the other people I know with my name.

I took the test and paid for the suggestions several years ago. I found the analysis to be accurate so I thought their suggestions would be right on the money. Well the names they suggested sounded utterly foreign to me. Granted, I only speak English, but still. Hopefully they have updated their process since then.

[name_f]My[/name_f] name analysis was spot on. But then again, I feel like it’s kind of the same thing as horoscopes, where you will always think it applies to you because you want to see the connection. I do think this would be an utterly fascinating topic to do a study on tho…

It’s like giving away your money to a psychic.
