[name]Hi[/name] everyone - this is my first time posting…
We have decided on [name]Kallan[/name] as a first name for our first baby, a boy!
This site has [name]Kallan[/name] listed as a girls name?! I was surprised to hear that… do you all feel it is a suitable boys name?
We are not sold on the spelling yet, but know we want a K.
As for middle names - we have 3 ideas, they are drastically different from eachother… (last name starts with L)
[name]Kallan[/name] [name]Jacob[/name] - Really the ring of it - concerned jacob is too biblical or too common
[name]Kallan[/name] [name]Maverick[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the flow, love what [name]Maverick[/name] stands for, love that it’s different, but is it too much?
[name]Kallan[/name] [name]Robert[/name] - My father’s middle name…and sounds strong.
Would love your opinion on the three above and open to ideas as well!
As you know, one of the dominant trends in American naming is the -en/ -an names. Most of those names have nice open syllables and usually are new coinages. They don’t have roots as either male or female… but, that being said, many are created by borrowing elements of common names. “[name]Kallan[/name]” will sound female due to its proximity to “[name]Calla[/name].”
[name]Kellan[/name] is a more masculine name with a similar feel; conversely–
[name]Stellan[/name]
[name]Callahan[/name]
[name]Colton[/name]
[name]Kelton[/name]
[name]Keaton[/name]
Oh [name]Kallan[/name] is definitely a suitable boy’s name. I considered [name]Callan[/name] for years until the husband shot it down. And you can’t go wrong with [name]Kal[/name] for a nickname, but maybe that’s just me
Because [name]Kallan[/name] is such an uncommon name (at least around here, maybe not where you are?), I liked [name]Jacob[/name] as the middle name. Gives him something to fall back on too if he wants to go by a more common name in the future. And come on…KJ? Eek! I love it!
Oh, right…your baby. Not mine.
Either way, that’s my 2 cents. All three are great names really!
I agree that [name]Kellan[/name] is more widely used for a boy. But [name]Kallan[/name] is more masculine looking than [name]Callan[/name], [name]IMO[/name].
If you think [name]Jacob[/name] is too mainstream, what about [name]Jace[/name]? [name]Kallan[/name] [name]Jace[/name] seems of the same style to me. Or [name]Kallan[/name] [name]Jake[/name].
I’m really feeling the “C” spelling. Also, as far as nn’s go, I prefer [name]Cal[/name] to [name]Kal[/name]. I believe the “C” adds some masculinity to it.
[name]Callan[/name] [name]Robert[/name] sounds like a strong name, plus it honors a family member.
I agree that [name]Jacob[/name] is a bit popular right now. Perhaps too much so, depending on your tastes. My brother’s name is [name]Jacob[/name] (he’s in his early 20s) and he actually goes by Jacobis due to all of the Twilight comments) [name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Jake[/name]?
Other possibles:
[name]Kallan[/name] [name]Micah[/name]
[name]Kallan[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Kallan[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Kallan[/name] [name]Joshua[/name]
Well to be honest the only person I’ve know with the name [name]Kallan[/name] was female, not male, so I can see why Nameberry listed it as a girl’s name. However, it’s not a common name so maybe other folks don’t have the gender association, it does kind of sound unisex.
Out of your three selections listed, I like [name]Kallan[/name] [name]Maverick[/name] the best.
