Karen

Yes! I know… But I’ve always had a crush on this name. I agree it’s unusable nowadays but [name_f]Karen[/name_f] “[name_f]Karrie[/name_f]” “[name_u]Ren[/name_u]” has always been a big love of mine! Ignoring the associations (which make it unusable), I’m curious what you think of the name.

It sounds like “caring” to me — And I love the meaning!

Ignoring the meme associations, it’s alright. It does feel very dated and very Spongebob but I do love the nicknames and the sound is nice. I think I prefer [name_f]Maren[/name_f] or [name_u]Seren[/name_u] though. [name_u]Or[/name_u] even [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] on their own.

Its my mom’s name so it seems a bit dated but I actually know Karens spanning multiple generations. I feel bad for the meme and associations it now has and hoping its just temporary. Its a sweet name. I do prefer [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] though

Personally I’m not a fan of the name [name_f]Karen[/name_f] but if you really love it i say use it, the nickname [name_f]Karrie[/name_f] is super cute! By the time your little girl grows up this whole pandemic and the [name_f]Karen[/name_f] meme will probably be irrelevant!

I love @tallemaja suggestion [name_f]Maren[/name_f], really lovely💜

It’s hard for me judge this name objectively because it seems very dated to me. There’s nothing wrong with it (ignoring the meme); it has a nice sound and some cool namesakes like [name_f]Karen[/name_f] Mulder and [name_f]Karen[/name_f] Fukuhara. But it seems very tied to the mid-century era. I think it will be a long time before it sounds fresh again.

I prefer [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] and [name_f]Karine[/name_f] myself.

It’s okay. I find it dated and since it was a common name in the past, I’m a bit bored by it.

Ahh, but childhood. I know it isn’t usable right now & I won’t be having kids anytime soon anyways, so we’ll see. <3

I really love [name_f]Karen[/name_f]. It does sound like “caring” as you pointed out, and is a variation of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], one of my absolute favorites.

I think I like [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] better but I like [name_f]Karen[/name_f] just fine. K is a really beautiful and not often used letter and I like it a lot. I think people need to just stop with the names as slang for certain kinds of people. It’s really not helping anyone.

Karen objectively is a nice name with a sweet meaning. The associations and slightly dated feel are a bit hard to ignore though

I don’t consider it unusable.

It is a name used by some to describe a certain negative stereotyped kind of person. The name could have been [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] or [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] or [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] or [name_f]Amy[/name_f] or [name_u]Kimberley[/name_u]. I believe the name is random rather than specific.

It is not as though there are world-wide militias of militant women named [name_f]Karen[/name_f] who are physically and emotionally harming others.

That said, I’ve always felt neutral bordering on not liking the name, just as a name. I’ve known some amazing Karens and some I didn’t much care for.

But if you love [name_f]Karen[/name_f], then you have every right to use it. I’m all for defeating the mind police every chance I get.

And I think [name_f]Karen[/name_f] is a great name. [name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_f]Karen[/name_f] I’ve known has been very kind and compassionate. I say use it or at least keep on your list!

Besides associations, I don’t like the sound of it. Seems very dated to me.

For me it’s so dated, all the Karens I know are in their 50s so I just can’t see it on a little girl. And is obviously where the bad associations come from. It’s probably my least favourite of the ‘[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]’ family

I much prefer the similar names [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Cariad[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Corinna[/name_f] and Karenina.

I think [name_f]Karen[/name_f] is a nice name. There is a woman on youtube, and her name is [name_f]Karen[/name_f], but spelled [name_f]Carin[/name_f]. I think sometimes changing up the spelling can help modernize a name, especially one that, I think, is very dated. [name_f]Carin[/name_f] sounds fresh, whereas [name_f]Karen[/name_f] sounds dated.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I prefer [name_f]Carol[/name_f] or [name_f]Kristen[/name_f] :purple_heart: All hard sounds, though.

When I was at school every second girl was called [name_f]Karen[/name_f], [name_f]Keryn[/name_f], [name_f]Carol[/name_f], [name_f]Sharon[/name_f] or Sherrin. I just can’t face any of those names now.

It’s not unusable by any means. In the new Babysitter’s Club series they use all the original names and one of the kids’ names is [name_f]Karen[/name_f] I’m pretty sure. She is awesome and hearing it on a little modern day kid totally changes the feel of and associations with the name imo. That being said I have known SO MANY Karens in my life that I just can’t go there lol. They were all very lovely people though so it’s not a negative association as such, I just find it rather overused and tied to a particular age group. The name has lovely sounds, and I’m very fond of similar sounding names like [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f], [name_u]Seren[/name_u] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u].
