I love [name_f]Katia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] I wish my friends had come up with these when they were nicknaming me!
Other nns that I get: [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_f]Rina[/name_f], [name_f]Trina[/name_f] (trying to get my mum to stop calling me that) and Tria (prn. TREE-ah)
My pick would be [name_f]Kasia[/name_f] (love this name! esp being a ANTM fan).
The only thing is lots of Katarinas, [name_f]Katrina[/name_f]'s etc automatically get called [name_f]Kat[/name_f] by most people. I think it’s not bad though, it’s affectionate sounding.
[name_f]Kat[/name_f] - would be the the most simple, intuintive one
[name_f]Katya[/name_f]/[name_f]Katia[/name_f] - is not a nn to me but a name
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]/[name_f]Kaja[/name_f] - would be odd since it’s not an inuitive nn
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] - also not a nn
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - different since it’s most used for [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], etc. but would work
[name_f]Kasia[/name_f] - I don’t see it as a nn for [name_f]Katerina[/name_f]
I’d go for simple [name_f]Kat[/name_f] if you don’t want her to end up with various nicknames, since it’s the one that most people would go for.
I like [name_f]Katja[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaja[/name_f] too, but [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] and [name_f]Katia[/name_f] would work better on a child born in the US in my opinion.
Yeah. [name_u]Ari[/name_u] has been tossed aside. I like it better as a nickname to my boy name.
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] and [name_f]Katya[/name_f]/[name_f]Katia[/name_f] are diminutives. They have been used as standalone names though.
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]/[name_f]Kaja[/name_f] might not be an intuitive nickname to [name_f]Katarina[/name_f], but it is a nickname to it.
[name_f]Kasia[/name_f] is a nickname to [name_f]Katarzyna[/name_f] which is the Polish form of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] is a cognate of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].
This is my cousin’s name and I call her Kaykay. To be fair I was 6 when she was born and it was quite a mouth full for me. Everyone else calls her [name_f]Trina[/name_f] or [name_u]Tari[/name_u].
Forgot to mention that my close family sometimes calls me [name_f]Katinka[/name_f]. I’m guessing you like the Scandinavian/European nns and the European side of my family came up with it. and I don’t think [name_f]Katia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] are a stretch. You already know my opinion but I say go for it because they’re beautiful!
[name_f]Katinka[/name_f] is such a sweet nickname. I really like it. I love hearing from people who actually have the names I like. It helps to get their perceptive.
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] I could help!
I really like my name and I’m happy that others are seriously considering it. It means ‘pure’ and I like that it’s distinctly European but it’s easy to spell and pronounce and it’s a unique and uncommon alternative to [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Katrina[/name_f]. Lots of people I meet comment on my name and say how lovely it is and that they wished more people could have the name.
Thanks for considering such a great name.
It’s a great name! I’m always surprised when people say it’s harsh or too hard. It sounds beautiful to my ears.
I just noticed you had [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] as a guilty pleasure name. I can’t help, but be a little bit happy that I’ve not the only one that likes that name.
I like [name_f]Kat[/name_f], but prefer it as [name_f]Cat[/name_f] short for [name_f]Catarina[/name_f]/[name_f]Catalina[/name_f] etc. I also like [name_f]Katia[/name_f]/[name_f]Katya[/name_f], but since the first syllable of [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] is “kaa” with a long “a”, it’s a bit of a stretch.
