Kate Kait or Cate Cait

My hubby and I love love love [name_f]Cate[/name_f]/[name_f]Kate[/name_f]. We may use it as a first or middle name. I can’t decide if I like [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f] or just [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I also need opinions on spelling with “C” or “K”. What you favorite spelling?

I prefer [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f].
[name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f] is my second or third fav of all [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] spellings.

I prefer the way [name_f]Cate[/name_f] looks. It looks softer to me than [name_f]Kate[/name_f] with the k.

I like [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] as well, or [name_f]Caitlyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Cait[/name_f]/[name_f]Cate[/name_f] look cute. Most people would probably go right to the [name_f]Kate[/name_f] spelling if they heard your child’s name, though.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. It’s prettier and more recognizable, which means she won’t have her name misspelled all her life. I also prefer a longer first name for most names, but I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f]. It’s okay, but I think I prefer just [name_f]Kate[/name_f] if it’s a choice between the two.

I’m not expecting, but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] has been on my short list for quite some time if I have a little girl in the future. I’d probably use it as nickname for [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] or maybe [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].

I think if the first name is just [name_f]Kate[/name_f], then this spelling is the most straightforward, [name_f]Cate[/name_f] would be lovely as a middle name since it wouldn’t be used as often and spelling wouldn’t be an issue.

However if you go with [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] then [name_f]Cait[/name_f] would be a natural nn, I consider [name_f]Cate[/name_f] a more natural nn for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]… I guess these are just my personal opinions though, pick the spelling that looks prettiest to you.

I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f]! [name_f]Cate[/name_f] is fine if short for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]. Otherwise [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is easier, though [name_f]Cate[/name_f] is just as pretty.

I have trouble with [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f], etc. I prefer the most legitimate spellings of names. On one hand, [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] feels most legit. But on the other, the Irish [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] is pronounced very differently from [name_f]Kate[/name_f] + [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]. So it almost feels more respectful to treat it as an American mashup and spell it [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Kaitlin[/name_f], etc sound nice but the spellings are tricky!
