Well, we lived in NYC at the time and we just spelled it [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. By the time we moved to [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], she was spelling it with a K. The only place we lived where it might have been spelled [name_f]Cait[/name_f] was in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], but she used Kate/Katie then until she switched to [name_u]Kitty[/name_u] at twelve.

Wow, lucky!!
[name_f]My[/name_f] part of the world, unless you have a name that absolutely cannot be shortened, it will be. And you’ve got no control over it [name_u]Welcome[/name_u] to Australia

Aha! I wondered if you were from Australia!
I think something in between would be nice. Once I called a [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_u]Nick[/name_u] and I thought he was going to kill me!

Yeah, perhaps something in between! But from personal experience, I would far rather be in a rarely nicknamed area than constantly nicknamed. Over here, [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] gets called [name_u]Nick[/name_u] before he even has time to introduce himself!
