What do you think of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] on its own without being a nickname for anything? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think she would automatically get called [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a nickname?
i think it’s lovely - a very cool, strong but classic choice. i think a little kate would probably get katie as an affectionate nickname, and i think it would be difficult to avoid in that context (from people close to her), but i doubt she would get called katie by someone who wasn’t close. katie isn’t the kind of nickname people use for efficiency/for short (e.g. sam for samantha), so if you want to avoid it you probably can.
I like it! I’ve met several people who are ‘just Kate’, and it works well on them. I don’t think [name_f]Katie[/name_f] is an automatic nickname, unless you live in a place where casual nicknaming is very common.
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] is gorgeous!
She’s elegant, graceful, polished and strong. I think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is absolutely lovely and deserves more time in the sun. I do not think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] will necessarily be assumed to be a nickname or referred to as [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is beautiful.
Yes yes yes! I adore [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. So classic and sweet but she still feels spunky to me.
Absolutely yes I adore [name_f]Kate[/name_f]! She’s so timeless and fitting for anybody. Versatile and so spunky—though could fit a pensive girl just as well.
I think someone in a Kate’s life would call her [name_f]Katie[/name_f] at some point. If she didn’t like it, it would be an easy correction!
I don’t think [name_f]Katie[/name_f] would be automatic, though it could happen. I used to want to have a [name_f]Kate[/name_f], but there are too many of them. I would go with [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and call her [name_u]Kitty[/name_u] or [name_f]Cate[/name_f]. What she chose to be called or her friends chose to call her, who knows.
I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a nickname, but I feel that kids should have options in their names. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter’s name is [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and she was [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a baby, [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a kid, but as a teenager she went with [name_u]Kitty[/name_u]. Now she prefers [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], although she is still [name_f]Kate[/name_f] to her brother and my mom.
Nobody ever called Hepburn anything but [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f] locally; the world remembers her as [name_f]Katharine[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Kate[/name_f] on it’s own
I also prefer [name_f]Kate[/name_f] on its own! It’s a solid, classic name that ages well. Great choice!
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] is sweet, solid and charming. I’ve known numerous Kates who are just [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and they haven’t all been Katies
I like [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I think it’s pretty and classic. It stands alone on it’s own just fine. I don’t associate [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. It feels like a full name to me!
I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] by itself! I could see some people trying to call her [name_f]Katie[/name_f] when shes little but since its a cute nickname and not a shortening i don’t think random people would try that after shes like 10 or so. I never heard either of the ones I knew in school be called [name_f]Katie[/name_f] but I wasn’t close enough to them to know if their families did.
I like [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I actually think [name_f]Kate[/name_f] being such a known nickname in its own right would be unlikely to be automatically turned into a [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. To me they are completely different names because I grew up with [name_f]Katie[/name_f] being a popular name around me not a form/nickname of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. Whereas [name_f]Kate[/name_f] has so far been unusual as a name in its own right. But I think it’s stands alone well.
[name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] I know gets [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] and there is nothing they can do about it
That’s interesting that you were able to spell the full name like [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] and enforce the spellings of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Katie[/name_f]!
I love [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] as a full name for [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. It’s just that people where I live shorten [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] to [name_f]Cait[/name_f] in spelling rather than [name_f]Kate[/name_f], and [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as [name_f]Caity[/name_f] or [name_f]Caitie[/name_f].
How did you make the K spelling of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Katie[/name_f] work for [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a stand-alone! It’s so elegant, classy and versatile and 100% a consideration for me in the future. [name_f]Katie[/name_f] won’t be automatic, though she will get it occasionally especially as a young child. I agree with @rosepip - it’s not a nickname for efficiency like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] to [name_u]Sam[/name_u] is, which are the names that people shorten without regard for the other person’s feelings or permission. As she gets older, I don’t think [name_f]Katie[/name_f] would be an issue. Especially if she didn’t like it.
I just suppose you have to think about what if she likes the nickname [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and wants to go by it, and how that would make you feel.
Where I live, most people are not nicknamed and they are called by their first name. Northern [name_u]California[/name_u]. Taught for over 30 years and this was most often the case.
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] is classic and simple but is still a strong name that can absolutely stand on its own. [name_f]My[/name_f] friend has a daughter named [name_f]Kate[/name_f], just [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and no one ever calls her [name_f]Katie[/name_f] that I’m aware of.
I love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a stand alone name!! It is strong and spunky yet beautiful!! I don’t think [name_f]Katie[/name_f] would automatically be a nickname.
