Kateri?

I know someone who just named their daughter Kateri after a saint. It can also be spelled Katiri. I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of it before/ what you think of it/ good middle name pairings? It’s pronounced: [name]Ca[/name] (like car), tear, long e

I know one Kateri, she’s around 40 years old. I’ve always thought it was a very cute name. I’m not that good at thinking of middle name ideas, but here are a few:

Kateri [name]Beatrix[/name]
Kateri [name]Annabelle[/name]
Kateri [name]Jade[/name]
Kateri [name]Roslyn[/name]
Kateri [name]Amelia[/name]
Kateri [name]Alice[/name]
Kateri [name]Margaret[/name]

I am named Kateri and I also named my daughter Kateri. Kateri is the first Native American to be named a saint so in oiut culture it is a huge honor, more if you are christian. I was raised Catholic but do not practice any religion at this time, I think it a beautiful name, My middle name is lynn and my daughters marie. I think it is best paired with a more traditionally regular name since it is so unique

That’s interesting, because my daughter’s name in Italian is Catari, which is what she was called by everyone when we went to the Bologna Book Fair the first time when she was seven months old. There’s also a wonderful song called “[name]Cor[/name]'ngrato” which starts off, “Catari, Catari.”

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name Kateri and it is my Confirmation name, so basically it is one of my middle names in the Catholic Church. Katiri is definitely not the proper way to spell it so I would stay away from that for sure. The proper pronunciation is Kuh-tare-ee (tare as in hair). Though depending on your location an accent could change this up a bit. We plan to use Kateri as a MN for a future daughter, our combo is [name]Lila[/name] Kateri, but I think it works well as a FN too.

Kateri [name]Lillian[/name]
Kateri [name]Annabelle[/name]
Kateri [name]Madeleine[/name]
Kateri [name]Olivia[/name]
Kateri [name]Jessamine[/name] (was almost my combo)

I know a girl named Kateri. She’s a classmate of my son’s (high school - Catholic). Her nickname is [name]Katie[/name] but the teachers called her Kateri because there were 2 other Katies in the class. I like the name.

Pretty name! Question, it looks like it is big with Catholics. We are Baptist. Would everyone assume a girl named Kateri is Catholic?

It’s a nice name, but I much prefer [name]Katerina[/name].

I would assume a Kateri is Catholic, but maybe that is just me, I am Catholic after all and I associate it with the saint. Still, I think that shouldn’t stop you from using the name if you love it

That said. I love Kateri. Katiri is not the proper spelling. Kateri is the Mohawk form of [name]Katherine[/name]. I really dislike [name]Katherine[/name], but love Kateri.

I love both [name]Katherine[/name] and Kateri, but Kateri sounds fresh, because I know a lot of [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Katherine[/name] but not Kateri.
I think it’s very pretty.

I think any Catholic you came into contact with would definitely assume you were fellow Catholics. With someone of a different faith I am not sure as I can only speak for me own. This name is so strongly associated with the saint and no one else who is particularly famous for something so I would think people might think it is weird to give your daughter a name with really only a Catholic history. Maybe if you are Native American, particularly Mohawk you could get by with it a little better.

I love this name. I’ve also heard the ‘[name]Katie[/name]’ nn with it.

Some middle names that might sound nice, depending on the last name:
Kateri [name]Luella[/name]
Kateri [name]Josephine[/name]
Kateri [name]Mae[/name]
Kateri [name]Alba[/name]

Kateri is a variant form of [name]Katherine[/name]. I am familiar with it and have seen it used once. I think it has a lovely sound, though I prefer [name]Katrin[/name] or [name]Ekaterina[/name].
