Kendall.... for a boy or a girl?

Title says it all. Which is [name]Kendall[/name] more popular for?
And would it be acceptable to use on the opposite gender?

It’s a girl name now. Last year it was #148 for girls in the US and it has a recent spike in popularity. For boys it was in the 600s and it has been falling for decades.

To me, [name]Kendall[/name] is a true unisex name. Of the Kendalls I know of, there are about the same amount of boys as girls. [name]Kendall[/name] is much more popular for girls than boys, but I think it makes a great choice for a boy. I personally prefer [name]Kendall[/name] on a boy than a girl, but I like both. A great name for either gender!

I’ve known a boy and a girl [name]Kendall[/name] and one Kendallyn…

I really prefer it on a boy though. It has the nn [name]Ken[/name] and sounds just great in my opinion.

[name]Even[/name] though it could be considered unisex, everyone would automatically assume that [name]Kendall[/name] is a girl. I don’t see, like, anything masculine about it, to be frank. I think it’s too popular on girls to work on a boy.

Well I’d personally use it for a boy but my boys all have unisex names so I may be biased. I could see it being used for a girl (I mean I’ve met girls called [name]Henry[/name], [name]Ryan[/name] etc. now so something ambiguous like [name]Kendall[/name]… sure!). [name]Just[/name] a quick note: if it was spelt [name]Kendell[/name] I’d lean more towards thinking it was a boy: being made up from 2 boys names: [name]Ken[/name] and [name]Dell[/name].
[name]Hope[/name] thats useful, [name]Jessie[/name]

I’ve only seen it used on girls and would think it really strange on a boy.

I prefer [name]Kendall[/name] on a boy, myself. I know more guys named [name]Kendall[/name] than girls. It’s more popular for baby girls now, but there are still a good number of baby boys being named [name]Kendall[/name] every year.

If girls can be named [name]Tristan[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name], why can’t we have boys named [name]Kendall[/name]?

Like some of the others, I agree that while there’s nothing especially feminine about the sound of [name]Kendall[/name], in practice it’s a female name in the US, although definitely a boyish one. Personally, I think it would be okay for a boy if the parents made the choice knowing that some people might assume li’l [name]Kendall[/name] is a girl.

Also, according to the [name]Baby[/name] Name Mapper, it’s a pretty regional name–only some parts of the midwest and [name]East[/name] coast.
