Kendell - boy or girl?

[name]Hi[/name], I’m considering using my maiden name [name]Kendell[/name] as a middle name for one of my twins (gender unknown). What do you think of it as a given name? [name]Do[/name] you consider it more as a girls name or as a boys name? Thanks, [name]Dahlia[/name]

If I heard [name]Kendall[/name], I would automatically assume girl. I’m not a fan of surnames for girl names though, so I would be pleasantly surprised to hear of a boy [name]Kendall[/name]. SInce it’s your maiden name and a middle name, I think you can easily use it on either a boy or a girl.

Thanks, I think I prefer it on a boy (think it’s the constituent parts ken and dell both being boys names…) but was just interested in what everyone else’s opinion would be!

[name]Kendell[/name] <~ boy
[name]Kendall[/name] <~ girl

If i heard the name [name]Kendell[/name], i would assume girl. However, there is a male [name]Kendell[/name] on some tween show called “big time rush”.

[name]Kendell[/name] is definitely a boy’s name for me. I do know a few female Kendells, but the majority are male. Like a previous poster pointed out, both syllables- [name]Ken[/name] and [name]Dell[/name]- are boy’s names. I think it’d be nice for the boys to keep their softer names.

I love [name]Kendell[/name]/[name]Kendall[/name] on a boy! It doesn’t feel feminine to me at all, so I don’t really understand how it’s predominantly a girls name now. As a middle name I think it could work well on either gender, though I’d love to see it used as boys name (or middle). It’s great that it’s got family connection for you.

I will be the oddball and say that I think girl when I hear [name]Kendall[/name]/[name]Kendell[/name]. I only know little girls named this and have never heard of it being used on a boy. I would never give a boy a name mostly used on girls, even if it doesn’t sound extremely feminine.

Well i will say, i have never met a boy [name]Kendall[/name]. While skimming the post, i saw the spelling [name]Kendell[/name], which i guess could be more masculine. I still think of it as a girls name. One of my closest friends has a daughter name [name]Kendall[/name] [name]Cotton[/name]. And she is a beautiful vibrant smily little girl, so all i hear is GIRL GIRL GIRL!

I definately just assume girl when I hear [name]Kendall[/name]. But non the less, Im a HUGE fan of boy names for girl, so I dont see it as a crime if you used a manily girls name for a boy… Pair it with a great, classic boys name?

[name]Kendall[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name] [name]Marcus[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Kendall[/name] [name]Robert[/name]

If its a name you love, or has meaning to you, I say make it work!
