Kensington (posh English) baby names in the last 30 years

I haven’t posted on here for ages, but I recently discovered this list of names of students who have attended a Montessori nursery school in Kensington in the last thirty years or so (1991-2018). It lists how many children had each name, and while some of them are quite standard, there’s some real outliers compared to the general population of England, but that I do find reflective of this international, wealthy area.

For example, they taught 12 children called Allegra during this period, which given the rarity of the name is a fairly decent percentage! On the other hand, they only taught one Leah, which is quite a common name.

Anyway, I thought some of you might find it interesting, so I decided to share it! There’s some really lovely and unusual names, and some very international choices too.

This is such an interesting find, thank you for sharing!! The piece that interested me the most was that there were two Noor-Adeles! I would have been surprised with even just one!

I just saw an Efthymios in this list and it made me think of you two, @Rosebeth & @kasatka!

Quite the list. I love seeing the final 20 pages or so (the rarer ones).

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] + [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] + [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] clearly wins out on the girls’ side. But the [name_u]Alex[/name_u] names are the clear winners by far on the boys’ side.

Actually, no. [name_f]Hat[/name_f], [name_u]Fox[/name_u], Hiya, TBC and baby boy. NOW I’m leaving.

There are some gorgeous names here, thanks so much for sharing  Three Anouks!!

I’m actually most surprised by some of the ones that only appear once. I’d have expected more than one of names like [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] (a Telegraph favourite!), [name_m]Guy[/name_m], [name_m]Horatio[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Jago[/name_m], [name_u]Kitty[/name_u], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_u]Miles[/name_u], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_u]Toby[/name_u], [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], Zach…

what an amazing list, thank you for sharing! I was incredibly happy to see [name_u]Yuval[/name_u] and [name_f]Maytal[/name_f], and pleasantly surprised by so many others! It’s interesting to see the difference in popularity there vs. here (I was so surprised by the fact that there was only 1 [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Una[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], and Violet!) :slightly_smiling_face:
