Keziah

What do you think of the name [name]Keziah[/name]? In this instance it is being pronounced [KEH-zee-uh]. I know quite a few (most) people pronounce it [keh-ZIE-uh] but it’s the pronunciation I would use if I ever used the name.

Thanks!

I had never heard it before, but I like it! I must say, I love a good ‘z’ name. Good luck (also love [name]Maude[/name], [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Zinnia[/name] from your signature)

I like it, I think it’s fresh and spunky

I also fancy [name]Xenia[/name] and Keceniah, with a similar sound.

I naturally say it to rhyme with [name]Mariah[/name], but I don’t think it’s a legit prn. But it’s a pretty name.

Have been liking this name a lot lately. Very pretty.

I know one person named [name]Keziah[/name], and she pronounces it Keh-zee-ah. I didn’t think there were any other pronunciations haha. I think it’s a really great name and it’s unusual yet familiar at the same time.

I had no idea of a different pronunciation either. I happend to google the name and every single resource I saw said keh-ZIE-uh, referencing the biblical pronunciation of names ending in -iah ([name]Jeremiah[/name], etc.). I thought it best to clarify the pronunciation I was using ahead of time.

I love the name [name]Keziah[/name], but only with the kez-eye-ah pronunciation.

I’d never heard this name in real life; I’d just seen it in the Bible (she was one of [name]Job[/name]'s latest three daughters.) I supposed it was pronounced keh-ZIE-ah because of its similarity to [name]Josiah[/name], [name]Jeremiah[/name], [name]Tobiah[/name], etc., so I was surprised to see Nameberry’s pronunciations: KEE-zee-ah or KEE-zhah (also different from the OP’s preferred pronunciation.) Why would it be pronounced differently than similar names? But I’m willing to be corrected, especially since I find all of these alternate pronunciations more attractive than keh-ZIE-ah.

I like the name, especially spelled [name]Kezia[/name]. Best wishes!

I’ve loved the name [name]Kezia[/name] for ages. I had always assumed it was pronounced KEH-zee-uh, because aside from the [name]Kezia[/name] of the Old Testament, I read the biography of [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Wesley[/name] and her youngest daughter was named [name]Kezia[/name], nn Kezzy.

I loved [name]Keziah[/name] for a long time when I was younger pronounced KEH-zee-uh, but the Ke-ZIE-uh pronouncation has turned me off a bit. The first time a heard the name was in a book, and the character mainly went by [name]Kizzy[/name] which I think is a supercute nn.

I really like this name, it’s growing on me.
I’d really recommend considering the spelling of [name]Kezia[/name] instead of [name]Keziah[/name]. It’s the difference in spelling/pronunciation between [name]Maria[/name] and [name]Mariah[/name], and I doubt anybody would mispronounce it if spelled [name]Kezia[/name]. [name]Just[/name] a suggestion!

Best wishes.

I’m so glad the response to [name]Keziah[/name] has been positive. It’s a favorite of mine.

I do agree with the multiple suggestions of [name]Kezia[/name], it would probably make pronunciation a lesser issue. However, it looks incomplete and a bit like it’s a made up name without the H.

For curiosity sake, what do you all think of these combos?

[name]Keziah[/name] [name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Keziah[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Keziah[/name] [name]Lily[/name]

Thanks!

Fun Fact: Until the 19th century the standard English pronunciation of [name]Maria[/name] was [name]Mariah[/name]. The spelling [name]Mariah[/name] arose to maintain that earlier pronunciation when the Latin, [name]German[/name], Spanish, etc. pronunciation of [name]Maria[/name] became more popular.

I wholy dislike the keh-ZIE-uh pronunciation. I’ve really only ever heard KEH-zee-uh so that saved it for me.

[name]Kizzy[/name] or Kezzy would be such an adorable nickname.

This is one of my favorite names from the Bible, pronounced keh-ZYE-uh.

[name]Keziah[/name] [name]Jones[/name], which is a male singer, pronounces it this way.

I love it! If my best friend hadn’t claimed it, it would be top of my list!

I know few Keziahs, all pronounced Keh-zee-uh. I like it.

I adore this name, I fell in love with it after reading a book with the main character named [name]Keziah[/name] several years back, though I don’t know if I would ever use it. I pronounce it Kez-EYE-uh, though I’ve never met anyone with the name or heard it said, it was just my teenage self trying to work it out while reading the book. I think the nn Kezzy is rather adorable as well. I don’t mind the KEH-zee-uh pronunciation, it just feels a bit more forced for me to say it that way.

I prefer keh-zee-uh over ZYE too. I have run into Kezias and Keziahs who say it our preferred way - that seems to be the more common pronunciation in UK and Australia. (I’m in Australia).

I am currently leaning towards, however, maybe [name]Kezia[/name] being easier for people to get right, instead of hitting the hard EYE-ah when they see -iah?

I also have [name]Ketzia[/name] on my list, reflecting the Hebrew pronunciation of keh-tzee-uh. (BTW as far as “the real Biblical pronunciation!” arguments go, ZYE doesn’t seem supported…)

Kezzy is cute but for [name]Ketzia[/name] I favour [name]Kitty[/name]. Can’t decide if that’s TOO cute, though.
